With respect to the Big Ten, it appears that Swofford got caught with his pants down once again.
His focus on the East is a reason to believe that OK and Kansas would have to wait for UConn.
I think he's got the right idea, although I would rather the championships stay primarily in Indy and Chicago.
I think BTN will be hosted out of Chicago and NY, and that's a big part of his master plan.
Who else beyond UConn? Navy?

UMass is an AAU school. They haven't won a game this season, but neither has UConn.
Seriously though, there aren't enough teams to pick up and with just Maryland and Rutgers on the coast, moving east makes no sense.
I think the big 10 needs a new commissioner maybe somebody who isn't a grad of UNC and from new jersey but rather somebody from the midwest who went to a big 10 school. If that type of person was running the big 10 i seriously doubt they would have passed on the missouri + kansas combo. In my mind, the big 10 would be perfect at 16 with KU and missouri with two 8 team divisions and hoop tourney in either chicago or Indy, maybe throw a bone to KC and NYC once a decade. IF the big 10 wants to go east, i think FSU has to be choice 15 than it really doesn't matter who choice 16 is could be uconn, UVA, or buffalo. OF course, i'm assuming they want to limit it to 16, getting above 16 changes things.

Neither UConn nor UMass are AAU members. Buffalo and Stony Brook are the only two AAU schools with football programs that are available in the East.

From what I understand, BTN isn't on the basic tier in a large chunk of Philadelphia. So, could be a factor there.
Talk about jumping to conclusions. I dont know how Delaney's comments about holding championships in the east and moving offices to the east transpires to expanding its members in the east. I'm sure that the BiG would like to expand its members in the east, if the right candidates are available, but that is a totally different subject than what he talked stated.

I don't think Nebraska is an AAU member; nor do I think that Notre Dame is an AAU member, but the B10 has wanted Notre Dame for a long time.
It may not be a bad idea moving stuff to the Beltway because of the two schools nearby. Going into NYC itself, though, division offices or championship games...bad form.
It's kind of like putting games in Philly, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, and St. Louis. You might have a school that draws from the area, but with other schools also "laying claim" to the region, it just comes off tacky. If the Big Ten wants so much to be in NYC, get a school that actually has a NY zip code. And that's not a dig on Rutgers (not intentionally, at least). Why stop at New York? Put offices in Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, and LA. You have no in-state connection there, either.

Actually the Big 10 said they were going to open an east coast office prior to taking Rutgers and Maryland.
