True, MT beat Marshall, but they had to put together a game-winning drive for the ages after leading for most of the contest, to include the last play of the game with only 0:04 left in regulation. Marshall's defense tightened up and locked down when they had to in order to take the lead late, but couldn't do so on MT's last march to the endzone. If they get up on UAB like they did on Marshall, have a couple of beers ready for me, UAB's defense is not Marshall has to grow up and grow up now.
Conference USA football is "on the job training", & it's dismaying that so many of the newcomers to our conference have already learned what it takes to be a winner/contender in their maiden voyage.
Although there is still a chance to become bowl eligible, 4 of UAB's remaining 5 games are against conference contenders, in addition to MT, @East Carolina, @Marshall, then back here for Rice and Southern Miss, the latter of which may still be winless by the time they get here, and no opponent is more dangerous than one that has nothing else to lose, they'll play the best game of their season against the Blazers, believe that.
UAB's chances of getting to a bowl under these circumstances, some of which are self-orchestrated, are quite remote and, IMO, border on insurmountible. Nothing would make me
than for the Blazers to go out and prove me wrong, but until that defense stands and delivers finally, game in and game out for the remainder of this season, I don't like their chances.
They'd be in much better shape had they done what they were supposed to do when they crossed swords with Troy and Florida Atlantic when they did, these losses are going to come back, IMO, to haunt UAB.
