I think it's very unlikely we go much past 30k with the new stadium right out of the gate. I'll bet they design it for expansion if/when needed. We all want to be the next big thing in Virginia football, but ODU has to be smart about it too. I think there's a logical progression in their plans.
Supply and demand has another name...StubHub

I like keeping demand high.
35 seems better, we could have sold out 30 this year and we played nothing but horrible teams at home. Just wait til we start playing acc schools ooc and cusa schools in conference.

Even 35 might be short-d.cking it a little bit. But 30? Why even expand?
The article does show how important the new stadium will be in attracting quality teams for home and home match ups. The best teams are scheduling many years away and we really need to get some rough idea of what we will be able to offer in terms of facilities so we can get these contracts for the coming years. We shouldn't rush by any means, I think most Monarchs are on board with the idea of our OOCs being made up of UVA and VT in alternating years, an AAC team and a Virginia FCS team which leaves us with one spot. I would love for us to be able to fill that with an AQ team.
The new stadium will be of paramount importance if we want to seal the deal. If I am reading correctly..."Tech’s previous contract with ODU allows for the teams to play at the 20,118-seat Foreman Field in 2018 if the new stadium is not ready. However, Ballein said he will draw up a contract that stipulates if the new stadium isn’t open, any games in Norfolk beyond 2018 would be canceled."

So if the new stadium isn't ready to go by 2018, the back end of the deal is toast. Great news, but now we have a concrete deadline to get the new stadium done.
Better get busy.
This is fantastic news! It might take a while, but I look forward to these series being heavily contested in-state rivalries!

I'll bring my post hole digger this Sat. lol
It almost seems like Tech is trying to beat UVA to the punch. UVA sees the 2 for 1 we signed with Tech and wants the same thing. We decline and offer home/home and they hesitate. Now Tech is jumping in and trying to lock up home/home series for 6+ more years. Tech sees the value of playing us yearly and the impact it could have on their recruiting in the area. It would be huge to tell recruits from the 757 that they'll be playing at home twice during their football career and it would be something UVA couldn't offer. If this is true, UVA should be in reactionary mode and look to lock in a similar deal just they can keep pace with Tech. With a new stadium on the way, it gives us some nice leverage in booking our future OOC opponents.
This is great news that is certain to help recruiting. Who could have imagined this five or six short years ago?

Every football player who has suited up for the Monarchs has played a part in making this happen, but without Bobby Wilder and a special group of players led by Taylor Heinicke, news like this would only be a dream. I feel privileged to have been able to watch this program develop, and I cannot begin to describe how much I look forward to Monarch football the rest of this decade and beyond.

GO MONARCHS!
Yep. Competition is working in our favor already. Just wait until we get it built. And I'm still with Razor on the 30k. If we can possibly build 40k, we're missing a tremendous opportunity. The entire ACC and AAC will be looking for dates in Norfolk. And that is not even considering what the leagues themselves will be saying. I'm just saying...
It would certainly be nice to play, for example, Tech at home in even numbered years, UVA in odd number years with away games accordingly making 2 of our 3 OOC games very close by and very relevant.
I also like the sound of a series with ECU, great gameday and the fans were alright bunch. Easy drive, plus BarBQ is a religion down there.

Nicely said AGGIE, I would add another name in the equation. Thomas DeMarco
Virginia Tech watched the game we played against Pittsburgh and said to themselves we had better get with program. ODU is for real.
