UC To Play Sunday Football Game on ESPN
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The University of Cincinnati's home football game vs. USF has been added to the ESPN national television schedule.
The contest will move from Saturday, Oct. 21 to Sunday, Oct. 22 to accommodate the telecast. Kickoff at Nippert Stadium will be 8 p.m.
"We're excited to play USF on Sunday night on ESPN," stated UC head coach Mark Dantonio. "This will be a critical game for us in the BIG EAST schedule. The move to Sunday will make it the only college football game being played in the nation, which will bring us great national exposure. This will create an exciting atmosphere for our fans and students."
The UC-USF game is one of three games slated for national or regional television. UC's Sept. 8 River City Rivalry game vs. Pittsburgh will be televised by ESPN2 and the Oct. 28 Syracuse contest will receive regional exposure via the BIG EAST's syndicated package with ESPN Regional.
Cincinnati has finalized the starting times for its seven home games. The Sept. 2 home opener vs. Eastern Kentucky and the Sept. 8 Pittsburgh contests will start at 7:30 p.m. The Sept. 30 Miami and Oct. 7 Akron games will begin at 3:30 p.m. The Oct. 22 USF game will start at 8 p.m. The Oct. 28 Syracuse contest will feature a 12 noon kickoff and the home finale vs. Rutgers on Nov. 18 will start at 12:30 p.m.
"We are looking forward to the opportunity to play seven home games in front of our fans and students," Dantonio stated. "It is truly a BCS schedule that brings big time football to Cincinnati and exposes our program to the top teams in the nation."
UC's road schedule includes back-to-back games at Ohio State (Sept. 16) and Virginia Tech (Sept. 23). The Bearcats will play at Louisville (Oct. 14), West Virginia (Nov. 11) and Connecticut (Nov. 25) in BIG EAST Conference play. The starting times for these games have yet to be finalized.
Un-F-ING-BELIEVABLE!!!

The Bengals play the Panthers at home the same day! Don't they do friggin research before making these decisions??? :irate:

At least they're on TV--it's good publicity. Plus, the Bengals game will be over by the time this game starts. I wouldn't assume that all UC Football fans are going to the Bengals game, anyway.
I did a quick check and saw three weekends where the Bengals and Bearcats are both at home. Luckily, the other two are the well-attended Miami and homecoming games.

I don't see the advantage of playing on national TV before a potentially sparse audience. Hope I'm wrong.
This is according to Lance McAlister..

If you are wondering, there is NO NBC NFL game that night.........due to game two of the World Series.
I agree....but you cannot say no to being the only college game on that day on natinal tv. Even a 7:00 start would have been better. It stinks for people with kids. I guess I will be at football games at least 12 hrs that day. The Pitt game is also ESPN2. I really wish the Miami and especially Akron were later but 3:30 is better than noon.
Call me crazy, but I like the idea. Any national exposure is good for a program that is always looking to be more visible for recruiting. If you start saying no to ESPN, you can get yourself into trouble. Bearcat fans will make it a point to attend, regardless of, if the Bengals are playing in the afternoon. There is a lot of alumni of this university, should be enough to fill up Nippert, if they care about UC Football. I could care less about the Bengals, and I will be at the game that night cheering on the Bearcats.

Some of us live out of town and/or have a wife that is not a huge fan of UC football let alone having to stay out until 1AM then be up for work first thing in the morning. Personally, this will probably keep me from renewing my season tickets as I am already going to miss at least 1 game, maybe 2. This would make 2, possibly 3. I'll just walk up and buy tickets to the other 4 games.

Just as long as that exposure isn't a double digit asswhooping like the WVU game last year. I'll be more excited about the game when we discover a QB who can throw the ball further than 10 yards on a line.

My god, I don't understand why some people have to be so negative. Nobody was expecting us to be any good last year. Do you realize how many freshman and sophmores we had on the field last year? people said we wouldn't win any more than than 2 games. We won 4, and a few in conference. I realize that's not saying much, but I truly believe UC Football's future is bright. WVU pounded quite a few people last year. Georgia ring a bell? As for Grutza, he takes way too much crap from fans. He actually had a decent freshman season, if you look at the numbers. No, he doesn't have the strongest throwing arm,, but remember he was only a freshman. Either he will get better, or we'll find someone who can get the job done. How come no one ever accentuates the positives? He did a pretty good job of scrambling, making things happen, when nothing was there. And yes, he can throw it further than 10 yards, sheesh. i realize you need to have a strong arm, but he shows good toughness and leadership out there, and I'm not ready to give up on him yet. I guess I'm ranting here, but I don't see the need to rip somebody who was only a freshman, and didn't exactly have the greatest offensive line to work behind.
Speaking of the schedule, can someone tell me what day homecoming is on this year?

I went to every home football game last year. I root for the team. I am not being negative, only truthful. Grutza stinks as a passing QB. The line doesn't have anything to do with wobbly 15 yard throws. You can't teach arm strength. The guy simply cannot get the ball down the field and that allows teams to play the run more on defense. Unless Grutza develops a throwing arm by September or unless a decent thrower emerges from the group, they are in for another mediocre season. I realize the rest of the team was young and should improve, I just don't see Grutza's arm as providing what they need at QB to be successful. With the schedule they have, they HAVE to have better play from the QB position.

Fair enough. I disagree, but oh well.
Homecoming/Parents weekend is Oct 22nd at noon vs. Syracuse.

Yea they were young, but they were still slow as hell, especially at the skill positions(RB and WR). Grutzas arm is pathetic and offers nothing to your offense. The DBs were slow and couldnt keep up with BCS athletes like WV,UL, and Penn St. Both lines got pushed around constantly, hopefully they were in the weight room this off season. This game is going to be pathetic. Nobody is gonna go to the UC game after going to the Bengals game to watch South Florida. On top of that, USF is a good team, so it could get ugly seeing USF blow you out in front of 15K.

Blow "you" out?
Jarr, thanks so much for being concerned with US lmfao

Opps... I actually still am a UC football fan, I must be used to talking to you guys about basketball.

OK then lmfao Thanks for clarifying. I thought you had said that before, but, then again, I'm a sandwich short of a picnic lately 01-wingedeagle

Thanks for your optimism. I think Grutza can be a a good QB. We don't know yet how much of an impact the newcomers will have on the team. i believe the defense is working it's way to becoming very good. I think this team will improve a lot the next few years. I'll believe a USF blowout, when I see it, thank you very much.
