I realize most are probably tired of the constant Mayo updates, and I sort of am, as well. But, I did this tidbit interesting. This is from Tom Groeschen's high school sports blog for the Enquirer.

Quote:Don't count on Mayo going to Kansas State with Huggins next year. How do I know? Well, I know Huggins, having covered his first four years here as the Enquirer's UC beat writer in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Let's just say that, from talking to Huggins recently and from talking to others with knowledge of the situation, I wouldn't count on Mayo heading to Manhattan, Kansas in 2007

So, where's he gonna go? UC, NBDL, Europe, not play at all?
He'll take the shoe deal and probably somewhere for a year.

Honestly, of the 2 (Mayo/Walker) I always thought Mick had a better shot at OJ. Walker seems pretty set on playing for Huggins, while it seems OJ has a soft spot for Cincinnati and made some nice comments about the program even after Huggins departure. I remember he said something like "Cincinnati deserves to have a good program again".
Mick is going hard after Bill Walker.I think UC has a chance maybe not a great one at least as good as Kansas State.Mayo that kid is sitting in the cat birds seat right now.Reebox might up thier offer to 50 mill last I heard.Who the hell needs to worry about meal money at school for a year.Would take a special type of person to turn that offer down and Mayo is a bright kid!
Given the comments Walker has made about Huggins as of late, I'd say he's going to K-State. Especially if OJ takes the shoe money, he's friends with Beasley and that would probably be a factor for him.
Meanwhile, Gregg Doyel is urging Mayo to drop out of school, and play in Europe.

Bill still isnt eligable to play at NCH next season he might be too old.If he is he's gone to Oak Hill for his sr year. And if that happens yeah K-State has a huge advantage.Neither Mayo or Walker really wants to play in Manhatten.Id put Mayo to K-State at about 5% or less.

What odds do you put on Walker or Mayo to UC..?

What odds do you put on Walker to KSU..?

I hate to say it but I thing Doyel is right. He could conceivably sign a shoe deal worth $50 mil right now. And for the shoe companies that may be a steal to lock him up long term compared to what they may have to pay him in 2 years. So why take chances for the next 2 years when you can get paid large to play right now.

A lot of variables are in play right now for both kids.Mayo i dont think ever plays college ball.OJ switching AAU teams had squat to do with him his college choice and getting steered by Huggins. It was leverage on a shoe contract pure and simple. And it worked Reebox slid over and wiped his arse and upped thier offer 10 million.Walker if he stays in Cincy Id say UC a 50% chance. If he heads to Oak Hill well better takes odds on the worst nag at the Kentucky derby and your chance is twice as good
I really like your optimism. Mike over at Bearcatnews only lists Walker as a 1 for interest and quotes Walker is a ScoutHoops article as saying he "always wanted to play for Coach Huggins, ever since I moved to Cincinnati."

I'd like Mick to change his mind.
And Walker did when Huggins was in Cincy. The fact that he's coaching in Manhatten freaking Kansas is the reason Walker is not commited to that school. And yes if the University ***** I mean president didnt crap all over the coaching situation Walker would be a Bearcat right now no questions asked

you can't encourage kids to droupout of high school, no matter what the circumstances. we've gone from debating about kids leaving a college degree behind in order to fufill their greedy minds to telling a kid to dropout of high school just to make some money? we're talking about high school. in all honesty, it isnt that hard, there isnt nearly as much work to do compared to college, and mayo can get all the help he wants with his work. high school is something required by law for minors to attend, and advising him to dropout and go overseas is just plain 01-wingedeagle
If what I heard was correct, UC has a very good shot at Walker. Seems Mick has been making alot of headway with him. I guess we will wait and see.
Mayo seems to be a fairly smart kid. He'll keep everyone guessing and keep all his options open as long as possible.

Oh please.... tell me if your 18 year old had the chance to earn $50 M from a shoe company or graduate from NCH, you would actually advise graduating? He could tear the ACL tomorrow, and lose the $50.....not to mention being able to buy NCH and change the name to OJM where I'm sure he'd be awarded a diploma.
