This was UAB's first game defensively under new coordinator Jimmy Williams, who was promoted last week. FIU had 287 yards in the first half, but just 12 yards in the second quarter and 109 in the second half, most on its final scoring drive.
That pass before halftime was a lot more than 12 yards.
Yeah, that didn't sound right at all.

The clock going out is a real handicap to an offensive trying to score in a hurry. Nice job not letting it stop them.

i believe he meant to say 12 yards in the 3rd quarter
That stat is everywhere, though. I guess they went backwards a few times.
Gotcha.
It was not a pretty win, but at this point, I will take any win at all for UAB. We won by a small margin over a bad team. I don't think by any means we have "arrived," but there were some positive steps last night that I hope we will take with us moving forward.

I think we have a lot of folks that play a significant role on this team that are banged up right now, so I think this bye week comes at an ideal time. Hopefully we will get a bunch of these folks back for the UTSA game. Our offense has done decent without Nelson, but no question we were a more potent offense with Nelson on the field.
It is often said that it is easier to find a job while you have a job. Maybe it is easier as well to win games when you have experience with winning other games. Probably every win can be traced (by those who wish to do so) to a failing in the losing team. I think it is like a chess master once stated - There is no such thing as a perfect chess game. The winner is the one who makes the NEXT TO THE LAST mistake.
Trying to line up 14 defensive players on the line of scrimmage at one point shows that the problems haven't really been fixed yet.
I still don't understand our mass substitution strategies on defense.
