Hope we don't drown....
Probably the most prestigious tournament UAB has been invited to since the early 1980s when the Great Alaskan Shootout was where the top teams were going.
Barely a week into practice and no starting five, fired Hasse! Seriously this is the most important thing in regards to 2014 recruiting to me a great tourney to get UAB basketball back on the map HOTH is great also. Here is a little help coach

Foz
Ruck
Swing
PP
Frazier

Now tip it off.
I'm impressed. From what I've seen so far Haase would (in general, not a commentary on Mackin) make a good AD.
He knows how to work his connections to his advantage and is a true promoter. To top it off, he is humble.

I've never seen a more humble guy take a helicopter to a preseason basketball lovefest named after himself.

I actually think Roy Williams is our benefactor here.

That will go away eventually, probably as soon as we beat them.

I immediately thought this too, but I don't care how it happened. This is an extremely competitive field, and hopefully we can make a little noise. It is also a great recruiting tool.
It's a great field. Definitely seems like a better field than this years tourney. We will lose a lot of players after this year. Hopefully we can hang in there with the big boys.

It probably didn't hurt, but it also helped that C-USA has a slot, and there's no Memphis to fill it. We have always been a big fish in C-USA Basketball, but now we are a really big fish in the new league.

At that point we won't need him (hopefully)

Nice to have that connection to bootstrap better exposure, though.
We will need as many marquee preconference games as we can muster, with the RPI hit we are likely to take in our wonderful new conference. Games like these make it more likely we could squeeze out an at large bid if we don't win the conference tourney.
UTEP is playing in that tourney this year with some very good teams.

I've watched a couple of the Battle 4 Atlantis games…it REALLY makes me want to make the trip in 2014.

I think I'll start looking into it
Air-Tran looks to be pretty affordable from Atlanta.
I'm not that strong a swimmer.
I heard from some Memphis fans who went last year that that resort where it is played is insanely expensive. I suspect that is why teams are paid to be in it, so they bring fans with deep pockets.

I am betting there will be some type of travel package offered.

UTEP knocks out Tennessee in Battle for Atlantis. MIners are another sneaky good team in C-USA along with UAB, Charlotte, Marshall, LT, USM
I'm strongly thinking about going. I combine a lot of their tournament games with work vacations. May make that decision around February.
