Conference USA preview: Can anyone replace Memphis as the league’s flagship basketball program?

I don't think anyone will be that dominant going forward. We could have 5 or 6 teams win the title in the next 10 years (provided we are all still in the same conference 03-razz )
The conference is ripe for the pickin'.

I only hope we don't become jerks. 03-lol
I think someone will to a point but I just hope for the leagues sake they don't become as dominant to the leagues detriment. With those coming in even though many of those teams aren't what they used to be, I think the league will return to a closer shadow of CUSA 1.0
It's UAB's to win or lose...Although I have a feeling that Southern Miss is going to be pretty damn strong in basketball this year.
Don't you guys forget about Charlotte.

We already are. Just frustrated ones.
We're barely a pimple compared to the festering and inflamed boil that is Memphis fan jerkdom.

I expect it will be 4 teams fighting it out most years: UAB, WKU, Charlotte, and UTEP

Every now and then ODU, USM, Marshall, or La Tech may make a run of success. But I think the four I mentioned above will be the top 4 more often than not.

Whether or not anyone in that group of 4 separates from the others remains to be seen.

I disagree. You are basing your opinion strictly off of message board jerks. The Memphis fandom is huge and has quite a few nice people who aren't on message boards
I think instead of one dominate program at the top year after year, it will be better for the conference that we have 4 to 5 strong programs that are all competing to go to the tourney year in and year out. I think So Miss, UTEP, Charlotte, USM, WKU, UAB and La Tech, all currently sound as if they will be competing for those spots.

While I'm sure you're right, it's those garish, flashing glasses that they wear which are responsible for my low opinion of Memphis fans. Those just scream "obnoxious." :-)
Yes, occasionally a program separates itself from its peers , but in the case of Memphis, it was also due to the former coach who largely separated himself from his peers in such a dominant way that the rest of the league was largely blacked out. That is why UKY signed him to that plush contract and he has lived up to it so far.

Now Memphis has a good coach, but not the kind that "blots out the sun so the rest can't be seen". The peers who are still in C-USA and the new ones, will have a chance to compete for the sunlight of national attention. Only time will tell to what extent these new guys are "ready for prime time" and how many are that good. I hope ours is one of the winners.

I have been to Memphis to basketball games several times, especially when they played at The Pyramid. Their fans were great. I spoke to many of them before, during, and after games. I always got the impression that they had a lot of respect for UAB Basketball.
Lifetime NCAA Appearances:

WKU: 23
UTEP: 17
UAB: 14
ODU: 11
Charlotte: 11
MT: 7
La Tech: 5
Marshall: 5
UTSA: 4
Rice: 4 (before most of us were born)
North Texas: 3
Southern Miss: 3
F_U: 1 each
Surprised UTSA has had that many.
Auto bids for one bid conference.

It would be interesting to see how many of those bids are at large and how many have tourney wins.

I thought I saw somewhere that UAB is the only CUSA team with a Sweet 16 bid in the past 20 years.
