Full Version: Why is it that I want Federal employees to go on furloughs?

I want them to understand what those of us in the marketplace have to deal with when our companies fail.

I want them to get a taste of the real world that does not have to steal to fund its activities.

I don't want them to have to go long enough without a paycheck to do permanent damage...but...just long enough to make it sting a bit like the rest of us. They need to occasionally be reminded just how good they have it.05-stirthepot
No work = no pay.
If it went on long enough it actually might make a dent in the debt.
Shut it down. Makes no diff to me.
In the past a shutdown has simply meant being paid for the missed work days.

Btw, You all do realize that many federal workers don't even go to work - they "telecommute" which means they sleep late, go shopping and watch movies while being paid.

The Federal Government produces nothing I need. Let them close for a few years.

Positive Rep me and I'll vote for Obama in 2016

Maybe this will help: one out of every one hundred fifty people you see works for the federal government.

Not really fare to blame the workers for the incompetence of thier bosses. Just cause Congress sucks doesn't mean the average person working in the USDA sucks as well. Maybe you've heard the old saying, "When seeking revenge, dig two graves - one for yourself."

But that still is in line w/ what Fo wrote. We all take that risk.

It's true. I have only known a few gov't employees who were truly malevolent or incompetent. Nevertheless, many don't appreciate how their work affects the citizens, few question whether their work is a benefit to those who are forced to pay for it, and it's a rarity to see those who don't feel entitled to their jobs, competitive pay, good benefits and annual raises.

To be fair, I don't know of any govvy agency that allows telecommuting.

Pretty sure some do allow telecommutting. However, also pretty sure those employees that do aren't sleeping late, shopping, or watching movies. Maybe some of that goes on, but if the work doesn't get done that kind of stuff won't go on for long.
Fact is these furloughed govt workers are on paid leave. They will receive all backpay in whatever deal is made. If the 113th United States Congress wants to make a difference close the SCOTUS have them meet from home, if they want, they barely meet as it is. Erect a trailer for the POTUS and first family in the rose garden or send them packing for Shitcago. Send the senators home. Turn out the lights in Washington DC.
I have maintained for years that few have a job with the federal government. It is rather, a position with the federal government. A job implies doing necessary work. A position implies someplace to go during the day to play computer games and visit porn sites and read newspapers and magazines when you're not at a long lunch or on a break.

Today and until a resolution is in place they are just on a paid vacation.
