Since the other thread was closed by big brother, I'll put in my two cents..

I like that he has confidence in our defense and that he wanted to put them on the field as much as possible, but that was a stupid move. Maybe we can throw an intentional pick next game to get our defense some additional reps? This isn't like an insides kick or 2 pt conversion try. There's a reason this was was one of the very few times this has occurred in football. It's a dumb tactical decision and it insults the opponent. With as bad as we've been, we can't make fun of anyone.
There is no logical way to justify kicking off to open both halves, but UAB won. UAB won't be kicking off to open both halves next Saturday.
You can get away with against an FCS opponent, but again that goes back to insulting your competition. They still dropped 28 points and considerable yardage on us, which is an insult to us lol

I agree with you that it was an insult to Northwestern State. There is no reason to do that to your opponent.
They weren't insulted. Drews article said they said "thank you"
What is that saying to yournopponentmifmyou blatantly give them a free offensive possession? It's certainly doesn't scream we think you're good enough to beat us or we take you seriously

They were probably more insulted by the 52 we scored. How dare we?
Just because they said thank you doesn't mean they weren't insulted. If you were one of those players, how would you feel? I'd be pretty pissed and feel like that was a slap in the face.

If the intent was to insult them, maybe. But that is just a message board invention.
It's insulting. I don't care if it was the intent or not, it is, and McGee knew that when he made the decision.
So some of what is said on here is invention and other stuff is detrimental to coach and support for the team? I think you need to lay off the Ensure.

I think you should stop being so insulting to other posters.

Before they lock another thread.

I seriously doubt that any of the players paid any real attention to it or even care. Things like that just never run across your mind as a player.
Oh that was because of me?

Sorry guys.

I figured it was because the resident contrarian said most of us "suck".

That's not insulting.
While it insults the other team, it can also serve as a huge motivating tool for your own defense..."look, you think you guys can play...prove it. If you screw it up, we lose...get to it."

I'm not saying I would have done it, but it seemed to motivate the D, so I've got no issue with it. If you're going to try to light a fire under your D with such a bold tactic, might as well do it when you're a double digit favorite.

You don't realize you receive the ball to start both halves? Are you kidding? I'm sure when they came over their coach pointed out exactly what was done(I would have) and told his guys that UAB obviously didn't think they would present much of a challenge.
2 plays I was wondering WTF -

1) Perry was brought in on 3rd down when we were close to scoring. Perry had not played a single down as of yet. Not sure if AB had his squash sloshed or not prior to that.

2) We were running the ball very well & AB runs the ball & gets his squash sloshed.

There were a lot of times where I thought we could just pound the ball.

Also, we seem to be lacking in the short passing game even though we did throw more to the TE's including Backman.

Henderson did get into the game and caught a pass or two & was used a time or two for blocking as a FB.
Don't think too hard, guys. It's just football. I'm sure they just laughed it off.
It motivated our d so much that we gave up 28 points and over 300 yards to an FCS school. The plan worked to perfection.

Maybe if you want to motivate your defense you start the second string guys to prove a point? I would have been much more supportive of that decision.

So? They didn't do anything about it.

They are in a lower division for gods sake. They aren't supposed to be much of a challenge.
