It kinda was.

It's only weird if it doesn't work.

But seriously, you need to worry just a little about that thinking. Maybe he learned a little too much from that Florida game.
If Akron had recovered and ended up winning, you guys would be crucifying Hudspeth right now. That being said, what is it with the Cajuns and freak of nature kickers?

Hudspeth had a much worse call in the game, 2 minutes left in the game and he just needs to run the ball, decides to throw a swing pass on third down that was deflected and intercepted. I'm okay with the onside kick, but that was just stupid.

Sometimes I think he reads his press clippings too much!

His end game coaching over his career has never been much to write home about. Between the Florida game last year, the strange Hail Mary vs ULM and this year, he's gotten a lot of attention.
ULL's Brett Baer did the same thing in the game vs WKU last year
That was a gutsy call and well executed, but Rice had an incredible on side kick against Houston tonight. Guy whipped his back leg around and rolled it to the backside. Rolled exactly 10 yards and Rice got on it. Gave them a chance, but couldn't finish.

His "back leg?" - what kind of players do Rice have?

He must have watched the highlights of Super Bowl 44. Sean Payton is a riverboat gambler and 75% of the time it works. I love the call even if it didn't work.

I'm pretty sure he meant the back of his legs but Rice might be doing some genetic engineering!

He...like he runs up and plants his left foot on the right side of the ball. It looks like his right leg (which is his kicking leg and is now behind the planted leg) will swing through the ball kicking it left. But instead he swings it around behind his planted foot and is able to kick it to the right with his contorted leg. It's hard to ,explain. I'll try to find a video. Play made SC Top10 last night.

Understand. Good explanation. Makes sense now, would misdirect the other team into thinking it's going one way when it's actually going the other way, with a much slower kick probably. Easier to recover, if they can block out a couple of players.

No bllocks were needed. The Houston players were confused by it, and were backing away from the ball. If they had ran up and met it, they could have stopped it after 5-7 yards. instead Rice recovered.
Sounds really effective.

The ULM call was personal thing for him, he wouldn't admit it. Berry was stupid enough to fall right into it as well.
