For those like me who haven't known the lyrics to "Go Western" (AKA Our fight song before "Fight On"), here they are per a band alum on facebook:

Western, Go Western, Let's go for the Brown and the Gold!
Stampede, you broncos. Push on wary, and conquer the foe,
Go! Go! Go!
Western, Go Western, Let's go team, we'll fight right to the end
Onward, you Broncos, let's go! Western will win this game.
I like it! Kind of better than 'take the ball, make the score.....'
I've said it before, as much as I love WMU I hate the words to our fight song. I usually just hum along and clap until the fight broncos fight part at the end.

Were these words to the same music?
This kind of talk is blasphemy!!!! 01-lauramac2
haha I know... I can sort of live with the words until the hand motions come in.... I like the over 1 over all we will reign hand motion as much as you all like the new fleck stuff.

Nope. If you watch pregame, Go Western is the first song after the fanfare. Technically the second thing played.

When I was in the marching band none of us knew the lyrics and just sang "go, go, go, go... Go go, go, go... Go. Go. Go. Go. Go Western."
ours were "Western, Go western, go western, go western, go AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

thank you 2010 BMB trombones.
Slightly ashamed to admit that in all the years I've heard the song played, I had no clue it was our first fight song...

Don't feel bad. It's a song every Bronco "should" know, but as a whole, Western has not done a good job of making sure students, fans, community and alumni know our Fight Song, Go Western or our Alma Mater. I mentioned in a post a few years ago that I was at a WMU fundraiser/gathering with President Dunn here in DC, and he asked us all to sing our Alma Mater... out of a group of around 70 or so, I'd say 20 or so (all alumni by the way) knew the words... maybe fewer. Sad.

Oh I know the full Alma Mater, and the current fight song. Sad indeed that most don't know that.

Just never realized "Go Western" was fight song version 1.0 - oops.
Words to both were printed in programs at home football and basketball games.

But game programs have gone the way of the White Buffalo like a lot of the print publishing business.

And thus ignorance of the lyrics to our school songs.

With more than rosters - such as pictures of both teams' players and coaches, cheerleaders-dance team? Feature articles on the game, universities, CFB? Lyrics to school songs? Schedules? Advertisements?

I.e., more than eight pages?

If so, I stand corrected.

To be honest, I barely looked at it, so I'm not sure. However, I suspect you're correct.
"Go Western" is actually a pretty cool song in my opinion!!

And I love our "regular" fight song... but truth be told, whoever wrote "Roll Out The Barrel" should be getting royalties from Western.

I think if Coach Fleck wanted to start a tradition, he'd start with making sure everyone in Waldo knows AND sings at the top of their lungs "Go Western", "The WMU Fight Song", and our Alma Mater.

Start with the basics.

Everyone knows "The Victors" -- maybe we should learn and love what's OURS!!

Totally on board with that. Great idea.
The nice thing about Go Western is the key is singable for me.

Our fight song, I just can't do it, and I'm a former choir guy. The key is wrong for me.
If I'm not mistaken, there are TWO verses to Go Western... They made a bid deal out of it in 2003 for Western's Centennial. They broke out this song, and one more that was quickly re-forgotten.... Go Western is cool! One of the few college fight songs in the country that changes keys in the middle! I'd call THAT tradition!
