FIU, So Miss and UAB.

So at least we have chances in the weaker division to get some wins. Both FIU and and So Miss probably should have beaten at least 1 team so far.

At least we probably have at least 2 wins this year.

Maybe sometime in the next decade, we can manage to start the season off on a good note, but its unlikely.
Well we didn't get a chance to start our season right, but it's plausible that we could be 3-0 in conference play. Not saying that will happen, but it's likely. I almost think it must happen to give us a shot at a bowl appearance.
Except for the 4th quarter collapse @ Troy, UAB would be 1-1 going into Saturday. Every game now will have our UAB fans wondering if a late collapse will again cause a defeat. If UAB can play BOTH halves in future games with the intensity of the first half against Troy, we have a chance to have our "break out" season this year.
I would just like to see at least a step in the right direction. The defense doesn't look as if it has made any improvement.

Still think we will be 1-3 going into conference play and sure hope we aren't 0-4 going into it.

I agree FN. Towards the end of the offseason, I started saying this is what we needed to focus on. Of course the Troy game was huge, but winning those 3 games needs to be the focus of the season. If we win those 3, we are likely 4-3 going into the "tougher" part of our conference schedule. We just need to find 2 wins in those last 5 to get bowl eligible, and who the hell knows, if we start conference play 3-0, maybe we can make a decent run at the east title. Even having a mathematical chance going into the last week or two would be pretty cool.
The Troy game was very poorly coached, the LSU game was just a mismatch in talent.
I believe we have simliar talent as most of our future opponents.

The wild card is coaching. If we can get our coaches A games then I believe we will win at least 6 games.
I'm sure at half time of the Troy game you were thinking McGee was doing a terrible job coaching.

We certainly got outplayed/outcoached at Troy. You can look at the stats and see that. Troy had higher rushing numbers, higher passing numbers, and far better efficiency. They even turned the ball over twice to our credit, and yet they still won.

Troy 4th quarter = 173 yards and a fumble.
UAB 4th quarter = 42 yards and tons of penalties.

Stuff like 1st and 35 just can't happen, especially not when the game is on the line. That's just terrible play and terrible coaching. There really is no excuse for that. Their quarterback had a 68% comp rate in his other games but a 91% rate in our game. Yes, that includes Savannah State holding them to a lower passing completion percentage than we did. That is just ridiculously bad defensive play. When you turn the ball over two more times than the other team and give up a huge special teams play (UAB's 97 yard punt return) your chances of winning become very, very small. We basically had the game handed to us and we gave it right back which was disappointing.

And I hate being negative, but it gets old starting every single year out 0-2, 0-3, 1-3, 0-6 etc. Crap like this kills our attendance for the year, hurts any potential momentum, and obviously makes our bowl chances much more unlikely. Like FNblazer said, we pretty much have to start off 3-0 in conference to have any chance of going to a bowl game.

I hate to harp on that Troy game, but that game really set the program back. The only way to get it back on track is to start winning Saturday, and carry it over into CUSA play. There is no excuse for our defense to be as bad as it is.

Football is played for 4 quarters, so I stand by my statement, we were out coached.
You said the Troy game was very poorly coached. If you truly believe that was the case, fine. I'm just saying, I highly doubt those were your sentiments at half time, so to say the game was very poorly coached is a bit harsh.

We were badly outcoached in the 4th quarter, when the game was on the line. The bright spot is the fact that we do have some good coaches on offense, and we are going to be fairly explosive on that side of the ball. I'll take a wait and see on the defense.........a lot of improvement is needed there.
