When UAB has a booster base like Southern Miss, we'll be upgrading our facilities.

They are not as well off as some mid-majors........they had a heck of a hard time scraping up the money to buy Ellis Johnson out. To their credit, they did cough up the money though.

Are they not off the hook for the $$$ due to him coaching at Aub or what is the diff between what his USM salary was vs what Aub is paying as I assume they would cover this diff if on the hook?

They should be close to off the hook by now. Maybe a couple hundred thousand a year difference. There is a lot of discontent down there right now.......A LOT of former strong supporters did not agree with letting Bower go.

That's not how it works
(09-17-2013 03:04 PM)the Dragon Wrote: [ -> ]The only difference between the UAT baseball stadium upgrade and the UAB football stadium proposal is that UAT's got approved, while UAB's didn't. Both programs need the upgrade. Both projects will ultimately pay off, even though there's a large initial cost. Both are beneficial to the student body and the respective universities.

Yet, UAT athletics gets a yes. UAB athletics gets a no.

A $30 million investment in any college baseball program will never pay off financially.
Finacially you are correct but it more the intangibles like recruiting, crowds, program image etc where the payoff comes from

The way they were able to buy Ellis Johnson out was by restructuring the contract for their series with Nebraska.

An OCS would really be good for that area of Birmingham too, which is starting to take off with the HUGELY successful Railroad Park and Region's Field.........several major housing deals on the way too.
Partiality = The Board of Trustees. They have the power to improve Crimson Tides athletic program any way they see fit, and have the power "not" to improve UABs athletic program any way they see fit.

Like it or lump it.

I agree w/ that too w/ my statement meant more towards the non/lower revenue sports
"In Friday's Board meeting, trustees were careful to note that the project will be funded by gifts, loans and money from Athletic Department funds, not general UA funds."

The point is they told UAB "show us the money". We did. And they still denied the OCS. But for the UAT baseball stadium we're supposed to take their word for it with no proof or details of any kind.
Conspiracy Theory: The UAT Baseball stadium is a direct reaction to UAB playing games at Regions Field. UAT needed a "look at our shiny thing" to tell recruits.

YEP!!!!!
For people using the average attendance argument:

Total attendance per season for UAT Baseball: 110,656
Total attendance 2012 UAB Football: 91,626

There are a hundred reasons why UAB should get funding to improve the university as a whole while UAT needs to spend money on something else. The attendance competition is not one of them.

That said, if the BOT gave UAB a green light to raise money and $30 million bond to get started, we'd find the rest of the money.

Technically, we showed them the promises. I'm sure UAT has plenty of money tucked away to pay for it.

They should have to show it before its approved. Any monies they have are just promises before its given. They will never show the money just provide figures and say, "trust us". That's not specific to them, its just the way things are done by those who can!
Technically we can have only promises for a project that wasn't yet approved yet when they're under the same conditions they don't face the same rules ???
They have it. I'm betting PBJr sleeps on it at night.
Of course he sleeps on it, considering it will be filtered right back to him on the construction of it.

With all due respect to Christopher Cross, they would have given him the Moon & New York City to Ride Like The Wind the hell out of Hattiesburg & not come back! #WiseDecision
Can you be making an investment by getting rid of a coach?
