Man, I feel a little guilty now ;-)

Quote:The UC head coach said Savino's decision to leave was not a surprise because he knew Savino wanted to work closer to his family in New Jersey.

"We talked about it every day," Cronin said.

"He and I are very close. His mother and his father both have very tough illnesses, so I fully support him."

The UC coach said he had several coaches in mind as possible replacements for Savino but would take his time filling the position.

"We're in full swing right now," Cronin said.

"It's not going to affect us in any way."

Savino could not be reached for comment.
If this is true and Cronin and Savino are really close, then I have to believe that Cronin feels Harvey is either coming or not at this point, and it has nothing to do with Savino because they could have agreed to wait another few days at this point until Harvey commits if either felt there would be a direct impact by the timing.

guess Mick hasnt conceded Harvey yet like some have here

as to Savino, just not sure why you take a job here to begin with if that is the issue....remember doyel had him going to rutgers almost 3 weeks ago just before he came aboard...

It could be that he is so close to Mick that he wanted to come help him on the one hand, but his heart kept pulling him back closer to home and being around his family. Then again I never had any feeling in this Harvey recruitment that he would actually end up at Rutgers, so if he does now then this is certainly just a strange situation to say the least.

Fortunately, I have nothing to take back because I never commented directly at Savino. But this puts a whole new perspective on things and I wish Savino the best. Family comes first. There are more important things in life than basketball and your job.
I posted that if he truly had family issues, I just wondered why he took the job in the first place.

I guess maybe he enjoyed working with Cronin and thought he might give it a try, but quickly got second thoughts due to his family health issues.
Well...I will pray for his parents well being, but I still question Mick's decision making on this.
I can relate to this. Family is why I moving back from Boston to Cincinnati soon.
As I posted in another thread I feared that this was the case although I hoped that I was wrong. God bless his family and pray for his parents.
I think the Savino situation speaks to Mick's character. He made sure that Savino had a job somewhere. As everyone knows, it is a lot easier to get a job when you have one already. Savino would not have been in much of a bargaining position with Rutgers if he was flapping in the wind. Mick was looking after a friend.
I still don't get why he took the job in the first place then, but nothing we can do about that now. Lets hope Harvey still signs.
Somebody mentioned that he wanted the Murray St. gig. I wonder if that were to influence his decision as well? Assuming he got the gig.
