Southern Miss is playing well against Arkansas early. Samford played them a pretty good game last week too. I'm torn with who to root for (I strongly dislike Southern Miss, but C-USA needs a big win)
East Carolina is playing well against V Tech also.
You will not need to worry about USM.
ECU over Va Tech is a better bet.

I can't believe someone is torn between a conference mate or a school that is an a) SEC school and b) almost went after our coach last year.
