I just received a private message from a poster here asking if I was ok with all the rain, flooding. This is a unreal weather event happening here, letup down here but these last two days were unreal!

At any rate, my area is higher up, we're fine. Not so much up north.

MHB, haven't heard from you. How'd your neighborhood fare through this? I saw 70 was closed on and off last night, a few roads were washed away, hope all is well.
Yeah, I lucked out. The track of the worst of it through Aurora was only about 3 miles west of me. I "only" got about 5 inches of rain since Monday. Aurora had about 14 inches.

I started a thread before I saw this one.
I saw 225 was closed, I took e-470 home last night from DIA when I landed, it was higher and not affected. Some bad wrecks though.

You did luck out, they were inundated in Aurora for sure. Boulder is still mopping up.

I see dark clouds coming over the foothills right now.....ut ohhhhh.
They interviewed a girl of about 20 yesterday during the rain. She was kayaking down Peoria St. where on one side, the water was 3 feet deep. Saw a guy in an inflatable raft going down Alameda Ave on the news yesterday.

They said that if this had been snow, it would amount to about 12 feet of snow. All. at. once.

CU had to cancel their football game tomorrow because Boulder is such a mess. Cleanup and rebuilding the infrastructure will take a long, long time.

Radar right now shows another big storm heading for Boulder, where he said they've had 18 inches since Monday. They calculated that 2 TRILLION gallons of water has fallen on the Boulder area. More to come. Floodwaters to crest tomorrow in Greeley. I don't envy them.

Choppers have been grounded by the low ceiling until this afternoon. First aerial pics we've seen since it started.
Greeley needs the wash. (ducking, JK).
Woa, now I feel bad, the South Platte (one of the few rivers that runs south to north on this continent) is washing over it's banks in Greeley, they're in trouble.
I'm really concerned about the large number of people unaccounted for. And for the family pets.

Yes, we are certainly concerned about the folks and creatures up there. I'm also concerned about the marijuana fields that may be washed away in the Rocky Mountain High state.
Did Tecos get any rain out of this?
We are still stuck in the sickest drought since the Dust bowl. West Texas has had a decent recovery though. And South & SE Texas too, for that matter. North Central TX still struggling.
C'mon up and ski this winter, we'll make sure a "Texas Toboggan" is ready for you!
Hey DB & MHB.....
I am west of Denver in Utah and debating if on Thursday or Friday, I should drive I-70 east thru Denver area or head north to I-80 to go east. I know I-70 showed closed earlier.
If I jog north it looks to be 120 miles extra. Your thoughts?

Use this link, right now you can drive east it appears? Thursday or Friday it s/b fine. You can call for conditions as well..... Dial 511.

They'll prompt you for different regions if you call. I use this site all winter for road conditions, it's MONEY.

Edit: Shows high and dry all the way.

Well, we were stuck in a sick drought, too. We needed rain in the worst way. And we got it in the worst way, all at once. Just in time to destroy the crops that the farmers had managed to nurse this far. Infrastructure damage to roads and bridges will take many months if not years to rebuild.

I really feel for the farmers and ranchers, who were already struggling due to the drought. Ag is the 2nd biggest item contributing to the CO economy.
thx
Will check again in am
Photos of flood damage along the Platte flood plain and Big Thompson river.

Erie stuff. A lot of damage, farm animal death and destruction here. Going to take a while to recover and rebuild.
This is almost biblical in proportion. Deep sympathy for Coloradans.
What's sad is that it's pretty much one region from the foothills and now down the South Platte into the front range. That's ag community, salt of the earth type people.

You meet them in airports and in fifteen minutes they're inviting you to come hang out, go boating in their uncrowded lakes, and have dinner with their familiy. You all know the type, they'll perservere but it's hard seeing them have to push through these conditions this way, they endured a nasty, historic drought only to have this 1000 year flood (whatever) hit them right after.
Whoah...
