I think this is a great choice. He's heavily involved in the Birmingham Business Alliance (he's a past chairman) and has publicly been a UAB supporter. He currently donates to UAB and is friends with President Watts.

Yes he's degree is from Alabama and he also supports them, but I think this is a good person to be on the board.
FYI he's the CEO of Protective Life and is one of the chairs of our upcoming capital campaign

I think this is a good choice. Certainly could have been much worse.
Representing the Birmingham area and not a UAB grad? SOS.

The guys he's replacing, John McMahon, represented Bham and wasn't a UAB grad either but McMahon was our biggest supporter on the Board.
This guy sounds like a very good fit.......at least not another Bahr-clone.

I know, and I'm sure Johns is a good man. After reading all the slime in the news about that hell-hole it's just galling to see them self-select like they do. Place is rife with bigotry and corruption and the PTB down there get to select their successors. PUKE.

What he said.
They could've put another Finis on their but they didn't, hopefully in time they'll put some more for Huntsville on there as well.
I hope he continues to be very supportive of UAB, but it's a slap in the face every time the UA BOT selects a UAT graduate. UAB and UAH will never reach their full potential under the current system.
Leonard, McMahon, and Portera are on PL's Board of Directors.

It really doesn't matter where they gaduated from. I have less than impressed with the UAB gaduated on the board. Give me someone who is fair and it doesn't matter the school.

Totally disagree with you. Where you graduated has everything to do with it, and it certainly means a lot to the board members.
What have the UAB grads done for UAB?

Someone who has graduated from UAB, but their loyalty is to Alabama does UAB no good at all.

We need fairness and someone in position to stand up to the power brokers. It doesn't matter where they went to school

As long as Bear Jr. is the President of the BOT, we have a ZERO chance of an OCS. These old geezers will have to die out first.
I'm not even talking about an OCS
The UAB graduate on the board from Mobile was not supportive of the stadium whereas England and McMahon seemed to be. Having a UAB diploma is important but I don't care if they graduated from DeVry, if they are supportive of UAB (not just the stadium, but in general not treating UAB like a satellite campus) then let's sign them up.

This guy being part of the BBA is nothing but good news in that department. Definitely, definitely could have been worse.
As long as they support ALL universities w/in the system equally as they should & are supposed to, I'd have no problem if they graduated from Univ of Phoenix.

And neither made the joke work.

Here is the correct joke.
