Once our OOC schedule is over, we start the important part of our season the conference schedule. The reality is that we will likely be 1-3 or 0-4, but those games can't help us win the division or the conference, except to better prepare us. We haven't looked as good as we did in some of the OOC games last year, but I am hoping for a better conference result.

10/05/13 vs. Florida Atlantic
10/12/13 at FIU
10/26/13 at UTSA
11/02/13 vs. Middle Tennessee
11/09/13 at Marshall
11/16/13 at East Carolina
11/21/13 vs. Rice
11/30/13 vs. Southern Miss

Luckily our first 3 confences games are the easier opponents, hopefully we can get some good wins, experience and confidence before we have Middle in for homecoming.

The 4 weeks of MTSU, Marshall, ECU and then Rice are gonna be the key. It will make or break our season.

Then So Miss and we will see if they have improved from last year or not.

I think we COULD go 6-2 in conference but we will see.

Based on two games for all the conference teams this is where I see the rest of the conference currently.

West
Rice
La Tech
Tulsa
UTSA
North Texas
UTEP
Tulane

East
ECU
Marshall
MTSU
UAB
FAU
So Miss
FIU
This is how I logically see it based on how teams seem to be playing so far:
10/05/13 vs. Florida Atlantic W
10/12/13 at FIU W
10/26/13 at UTSA Tossup
11/02/13 vs. Middle Tennessee Tossup
11/09/13 at Marshall L
11/16/13 at East Carolina L
11/21/13 vs. Rice L
11/30/13 vs. Southern Miss W

Most likely end up 3-5 or 4-4 in conference and middle of the East again.

However, based on the past 8 years I have watched UAB football and based on our constant inconsistency (and terrible pass defense/no QB pressure) I think the season will go something like this:
Somehow figure out a way to lose to teams we shouldn't lose to this year (FAU and/or FIU/USM, IE letting Tulane score 55 on us last year and getting absolutely demolished by Memphis) and somehow pull off a win vs Marshall, ECU, or Rice by 2 touchdowns...though I'm going to say this will probably happen to Marshall or Rice.

But yeah, there is some possibility that we could still end up with a 6 or 7 win season. It's just really hard for me to fathom since I've never personally seen it happen yet. Sorry for being a bit pessimistic 03-wink

That really sounds about right. The Troy game really messed us up getting to 6 wins. We can still do it, but will have to beat somebody we are an underdog to. You are right about the pass defense.......until it improves, we will have a hard time beating anybody.

UTSA is not going to be one of the "easier opponents". Frankly, I don't think any will be easy.
Conference race? Haha keep dreaming. You know who coaches this team right?

Well, we looked like a good team for 3 quarters against Troy, and NO CUSA would look worth a crap against LSU.............I'll reserve judgement for a while.

You know what conference we're in, right?

UTSA down 42-7 to Okie $tate after 3
MTSU down 23-0 at the half to UNC
FIU loses to UCF 38-0
Tulane loses to USA
S. Miss annihilated by Nebraska

I could go on, but you get the point. UAB has a shot! I admit Rice, ECU and Marshall are the favorites, but we held or own against those last year, and have a better team this time around.

Stupid comment. Go to the store and buy some other team's gear.

Yes and UTSA is closer to winning a title than we are. Marshall, ECU, Tulsa and UTSA would all beat Troy easily and will all beat us.

It is a conference race for UAB until it isn't anymore. That will not be decided until after several games yet to be played. We are 0-0 in C-USA with 8 conference games to go - 4 @ home and 4 on the road.

Troy played a 11-2 Okie State team to a 41-38 game (unlike UTSA, who was down 42-7 after 3 quarters). With our big TE's, good RB's/WR's, we can hang with ANY CUSA IF (a big IF), the defense can makes some strides.
I don't know why people are so impressed with UTSA.

Assuming I concede any one of those games, I couldn't help but notice you neglected to mention the entire conference slate.

I guess they are impressed because they squeaked by a terrible New Mexico team their 1st game.

Road game in a likely sold out dome? If it only holds 35,000. Maybe im uneducated on utsa. Most likely the case to be honest.

It seats around 65,000. They had 40,677 for the Okie $tate game, but most of it was $tate fans.

Oh the Alamo dome. maybe their crowds will be similar to Tulanes by the time we play them. I don't give us an edge over them because I don't think we are any more talented than them. We have the talent level of an FCS team.

It should be an evenly matched game. UTSA is at Arizona this week. We'll find out more about them out there.
