I wanted to come by and tell you how impressed I was with the UAB Band at halftime. They are leaps and bounds better than they were just a few short years ago. You should be very proud of little smaug.
Totally agree.
Thanks, man. Knowing a little something about Troy's band, I'll take that as high praise. I'm proud of her, but she's 5% of the band. 03-lol

Seriously, the band is a lot like the football team. Young and growing.

I thought they were fantastic Saturday night, but I also acknowledge I paid more attention to it then than in years past.

[Image: thumb.gif] As long as you guys have jamarcus nelson, you'll be fine. Good luck the rest of the way.
Believe it or not, the Troy Band Program helped UAB get its marching band. Dr. Johnny Long, Dr. Ski Winter, Dr. J. Claude Bennett, and Gene Bartow are the ones that helped give birth to the UAB Marching Blazers.
The name Ski Winter rang a bell for some reason.

Did he direct somewhere else besides UAB?

It is impossible to google Ski Winter to find this, for somewhat obvious reasons.
He was a middle school(?) band director in the Birmingham metro for many, many years.
Clifford Winter is a little easier to look up.

Actually, if I remember correctly, his first teaching job was at Dadeville High School down in South Alabama. I know he was at Huffman for a while before coming to UAB. He then went to Vestavia Hills and is now enjoying the retired life.

There's only 20 people in the band?

Did I mention I wasn't a math major? 05-footinmouth
I felt like 2010 was a really solid year for us. I remember taking the Stevie Wonder show on the road to an angry, drunk UCF crowd and actually getting a big crowd response, especially after the dance break. It felt awesome. I've never had 40,000 people screaming at me before, and I probably never will again.

They were probably drunk, but not too angry..........we lost that game something like 42-6.
Oh I had several one-on-one interactions up close and personal. They were mean.
Nothing will ever compare to the guy that puked on me in Louisville. He wanted us to play some acid rock.
That's awesome.

I came really close to getting myself kicked out of the band that night. I got into it with several UCF people. Apparently I don't handle heckling well.

Wow! That's some crazy stuff there.......some of them probably need to give up drinking.
Wait till you see Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night.

QFT.

My Aunt and Uncle were hunter safety orange to the core Tennessee fans. They went everywhere UT played football, except they quit going to Baton Rouge in 1974.
