Thoughts on Non-AQs in the Coaches Poll:
- Fresno, Arkansas State are too high.
- NIU, BG, and Utah State are too low.
- Western Kentucky should have received some votes.

Congrats to BGSU.

You have a great team.
Did I read the AP poll correctly? Not one vote for a C-USA team?

I think there is a good chance that NIU will be undefeated going into November...

Do people not understand that the BCS still exists in 2013?

Too many posts concerned with Louisville. The AAC Champ WILL be going to a BCS bowl this year regardless of record.

The MAC only needs to be concerned with taking care of business and maybe be looking at what the MWC does. But even then, the MWC will prove itself to be weaker than the MAC by the end of the season, so in the event that both Champs are undefeated the MAC Champ SHOULD RANK HIGHER than the MW Champ.

BG basically took care of eliminating CUSA (as predicted), the SBC is too far behind in national perception and depth (with only 8 teams this year including two FBS transitioning teams that already lost to FCS teams) to be a real threat.

There are only 4 conferences competing for that "BCS Buster" spot (if there is one), and with CUSA and SBC all but eliminated, it should be a two-horse race between MAC and MWC.

EDIT: In order to qualify at #16, the Non-AQ Champ would have to be ranked higher than ANY AQ Champ, does not have to be the AAC. It could very well be the Big 12 Champ or Big Ten Champ, or both this year.

Lots of projections have Ohio State going undefeated, but I'm not sold. This could be another year where the Big Ten Champ has 3 or 4 losses, especially with the Championship Game throwing a wrench at the last second like Wisconsin over Nebraska last year.
I think Marshall & WKU should have received votes. Marshall has the potential to be a BCS buster with their schedule although I hope Ohio or Tulsa knock them off. Va tech will be tough for them.

WKU really just has this weekend at Tennessee. Not easy but possible.
Pretty hard to pick OU over Marshall after having seen both teams...again, as already covered many times the question is: Is UL just that good?, or, is OU vastly overrated? I hope it's the former.
Lville IS that good, they brought their A game and their A game is a beast. If Ohio brings its A game its still a loss. The problem is Ohio didn't bring anywhere near its A game. Fall camp was real light on contact to avoid injuries (didn't help) and Tettleton got very few reps, and it showed. They were rusty and slow and would have struggled against Idaho, but a legit top 10 team with an ax to grind? forgetaboutit. I wouldn't pick OU over Akron at this point.

I believe Ohio has the personnel to win 10 games this year, but I have no idea if they will live up to the potential.

Glad to see BG getting some love in the polls, AP got it right, BG got the most votes of any non AQ that didn't beat an AQ, coaches poll slow to recognize. San Jose St beat an FCS team, BG should be ahead of them. They play at Stanford this week so their votes won't last long.
Same thing about Marshall..is their offense that good, or is Miami just a terrible, terrible defense. I'd say it's probably about 50/50 in this instance.....Marshall is pretty good and Miami is just an awful team.
This is a Football Poll thread.

I would like to see L'ville not finish in the top 16, but I don't know who is going to beat them???? Rutgers?

The tipoff on them was that they returned something like 19 starters (I believe that is correct).

Marshall is not a Top 10 team like Louisville is or even projected to be Top 25 by any publications. A big difference between the two clubs at this point.

Since you were tied with Marshall at half time it sounds like the wheels fell off of Miami more so than Marshall is a super dominate team. The Herd was also playing at home where a wild blow out is more likely.

Ohio has Marshall in Peden so I wouldn't expect a 40 point loss for the Bobcats in that one, IMO.
No, KC, I certainly don't expect the Herd to blow out the Kittens....I expect a close game, though. Marshall made some adjustments at halftime and I think our coaching staff is pretty much clueless and thus made no adjustments. Afterwards our Head Coach talked about how well we competed in the postgame conference call.....he must've missed the 2nd half and the fact that we got blown out by a mid-tier (since leaving the MAC) C-USA squad that hung 52 points on us......obviously he is in a different dimension than the rest of us.

NIU gets 27 votes in the AP poll (up from 16), and Bowling Green gets on the board with 9 votes.

NIU could seriously make a run up the polls this season.

-Easy remaining non-conference games against Purdue, FCS and Utah.

-Easy crossover games from the MAC East in UMass and Akron

Idaho, Eastern Illinois, and Purdue.... If NIU played and beat UTAH, that would be a special season and deservable of another BCS.

I think NIU has some speed bumps in the schedule though:
@Purdue
@Kent
------
vs. BSU
@Toledo

If they go undefeated with their soft OOC and MAC schedules, it'd mean they did damage against the 4/5 toughest teams on their schedule on the road. Still good enough for a top 15 finish.
BGSU and NIU moving on up. MAC needs to do its best non-conference. Decent week in week 1 with NIU and Tulsa getting the key wins. Toledo, Ohio, Buffalo lost, but played ranked teams. If they can win the key toss up games like BGSU over Tulsa and NIU over Iowa were that helps the MAC. Road games vs 25 teams still a tough act for the MAC.

Actually, EIU could be a tough game. They beat SD State 40-19.

Thoughts on Non-AQs in the Week 3 Coaches Poll:
- NIU, BG, BYU, and Utah State are too low.
- Fresno and East Carolina are too high.
- Ball State should have received some votes.

Negative bias towards the MAC shows. East Carolina allowed 38 points to a team transitioning from FCS to FBS and beat a really bad FAU team at home. BG destroyed Tulsa and beat a good Kent State team on the road by about the same margin as East Carolina beat FAU at home.

Fresno barley beat a Rutgers team that traveled 3,000 miles to play at midnight their time, by 1 point and allowed 51 points in the process and beat an FCS team at home by about the same margin as BG beat a good Kent State team on the road.
