That's what I'm talkin' about. Crush them Tigers with a hob-nailed boot. You tell 'em, Frenchy!

We got this! Stack eight in the box and force their qb to beat us. Also, I think our first couple of drives are crucial. We have to jump on them quick. Maybe their qb will throw 6 interceptions again like that Booty boy did last time we played.
That reminds me. I've got to get my annual thank you note to "The Legend of" Josh Booty in the mail soon.

Are you saying that there was nothing UAB could have done to win that game? That it was just gonna happen, like an asteroid hitting the Earth?
Well we were breaking in a new snapper last week.

Also, Stache has preached about "making the plays when the game is on the line" even from his intro press conference. He knows what the problem is. Regardless of final record, I think we'll all be happy to see this team play one of those 4-quarter games by the end of the year. It hasn't happened yet, but once it does it will click.

This.

There were probably 3 or 4 plays in the 4th quarter that if we'd made it, we probably win. And I don't mean anything heroic. Just execute.
The silly personal foul that JJ Nelson picked up when we were driving towards the end of the 4th quarter sticks out to me.

No, not at all. What I'm saying is that sentence sounds like it was written by an 8th grader writing for the local middle school newspaper, or by someone who has never been on the field. The problem Saturday night as in all close games wasn't belief; it was execution.

It was only a "close game" after a 14 point lead was squandered in the fourth quarter. Everyone acts like it would've been some heroic miracle on ice moment for UAB to have won the game, but that's not the way it was.

That's exactly why some are optimistic. We have the speed and talent to beat just about anyone on our schedule. We botched the ending, sure. But that's easier to fix than not having the talent and struggling throughout the game only to lose it on a miraculous come-back. We were in control, and let it slip away. I would rather lose like that then to be losing the whole game and only make a run at the end.

If our players and coaches can learn from this game and figure out how to hold on to a lead, we should be in good shape.
I said I was both frustrated and encouraged, and for the same reason. Encouraged because we bodied up with Troy pretty well. Frustrated because we couldn't close the deal.

I'd be optimistic if we hadn't been in this same exact place for the past 8 years. "closing the deal" has been an issue since the day I started watching UAB football. How many leads and close games against BCS and non-BCS teams alike have we seen evaporate in the fourth quarter?
If McGee had been coaching for the last 8 years, I would probably share your concern.
McGee hasn't shown any more ability to learn from and correct mistakes than Watson or Callaway did. Time to face the fact that he's been a bust up to this point.
The "busting" or "bursting" point has not been reached in my opinion.

That would be at the earliest some time in year 4.

04-jawdrop

I hope not.
It's a little harsh calling him a bust so early in his career here. The team is bigger, faster and stronger than last year, and he snagged several good recruits. If Humphrey had been eligible, and Backman not suspended, we would more than likely be happy over a win..........fine line there.

He's got until the end of the season. If this season is a loser, then he has to come out of the gate firing on all cylinders first game next season.

Wow, in only 1 year and 1 game you have already deduced that McGee is a bust. Quick! What number will I be thinking of?
But seriously, how about giving the man a chance. Use to be a coach gets 4 years because by then he has all his guys he recruited in senior spots AND CHANGE DOESN'T HAPPEN OVER NIGHT.
Microwave society much? I think he hyped it up to much but I think he realizes that it's not gonna be as easy as he thought it was. Just give the man till we get into conference play until we tar and feather him and run him out of town ala the gumps and Aubies.

Say what you want to about the general education level and the anti-social behavior of gumps and barners, but they have the last four national championships. Not saying we should get Attalla drunk and send him to the airport to meet Coach McGee when he comes to down, but obviously there are some things they do right.
