Some people are acting as if the just lost the 11th game of the season. They just repaid us for our miracle at legion field with a miracle of their own...thats all. We probably should play them around the end of the season not the first game since we take the outcome so harshly.
So, now we know how SMiss feels after they play UAB - a winnable game that is lost(of course, we did lose 9 straight to them before our 4 game winning streak). Part of being a fan is the highs and the lows. Take a deep breath and get over it. Move on to LSU, a much tougher opponent.
Absolutely right. The folks on here drive me nuts sometimes. Every team in America wants to win games and feels entitled to win them. It doesn't always happen. And sometimes it will happen but it takes time.

Why must some always talk of shutting things down? There are some like Troy for example that are pretty much perennial losers in basketball. Do they talk of shutting down their program? No. They just built a nice new arena.

UAB football has a well documented history of misfortunes. Doesn't mean we don't deserve a chance to have a team to cheer for and enjoy the right to watch out alma mater out there on the field Saturday.

This give up on the season, give up on McGee, give up on UAB football is loser talk. Its pathetic and distasteful. Dr. Volker and Coach Bartow would be disappointed.

I hate moral victories as much as the next person. And quite frankly I really wouldn't even think this would qualify as a moral victory. It's a bad loss. Period. But unlike so many of you, I haven't lost faith. I haven't lost the belief that UAB deserves to have a football program just as much as any other program. And I will be there to support it and fight for the right for it to exist.

We must continue as fans to support the program. We must push for facility improvements and support our team in the stands. Last night was a great show of support. We need more nights of support like that. That's our job as fans. And when the season is over then that is the time we let Mackin know our concerns.
Idea for a new t-shirt:

"Blazer football fans: Been quittin' and crawlin' back since 1996..."
BTW- It sucks to lose, but like I tell my son, it's worse to quit.

As long as UAB fields a team, that's my team.

I know it's a basketball movie reference, but this exactly how I feel, believe, and think:

I agree that the season isn't over. I'm always hoping the next game is when the program turns around.

BUT I've seen the same "All Is Not Lost", "Step Away from the Ledge", and "Oh, no The Sky Is Falling" posts for going on ten years. In all those football seasons, all really was lost if you were hoping for a positive turn in the program's trajectory. The sky really did fall for UAB football around 2005-2006 and we're still waiting for it to rise.

UAB football fans have every right to be upset and depressed. Every year it's the same thing. I feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day. I think things are about to change and I wake up to that f*****g Sonny and Cher song again.
Yes this has been going on for years but this is just one year and one game under McGee. McGee hasn't been perfect but I think we are more competitive already than before he arrived.

Legitimate question. Given the terrible time from 2005 to when McGee took over, that's what like 7 years. How long do you guys think it should take to get over that? One game? One year? We have had a culture of losing. That's hard to change but that's what McGee is trying to address.

Most folks that aren't UAB fans are actually impressed with UAB after our game last night. I think we are much better than a year ago. But because of our schedule and the way things fall, this was an unfortunate game to lose.

But having said that I saw nothing last night that would make me think that UAB doesn't have the talent to win CUSA. If we can shore things up mentally, we will be extremely tough to beat.

At most places he would be given two to three seasons to get things turned around. UAB will probably give him five. He's not going anywhere so there's no reason to even suggest it.

I saw a lack of talent on the DL, for the umpteenth season in a row. They got completely dominated in the second half.
Yeah the play of the DL has somehow been exempt from the fan complaints this morning. As usual, our LB corps played great. I was really impressed with Ganus at this position. But our DL struggled in the 2nd half as you pointed out. We had one CB in particular that was picked on repeatedly.

this....
The DL was obviously tired due to long time-consuming drives by Troy and an ineffective offense that kept them on the field. Add to that RB Chunn coming in fresh (and big at 225lbs). Some of our DL are more suited to a 4-man line than a 3 man line. We have to improve our DL rotation.

I have a younger son that plays OL so I guess I pay a lot of attention to the trenches. Other than Rabb, who is way under-sized, there is ZERO quickness on the defensive front. Rushing three just adds to the futility. The Troy QB is an accurate passer but it was pretty much like running passing drills in practice with no line. He could stand in one spot for 5 seconds and scan the field. It's been that way for years and years. That's why it was so frustrating when UAB only signed one true freshman DL. That area needed a complete overhaul but all we did was rearrange the deck chairs.

And, if I'm not mistaken, that CB was moved from another position to be a CB. He got owned most of the game.

Losing Jay Davis hurt us, and we were sitting right above him and saw them treating the injury...it did not look good at all. I hope it isn't an ACL. Since he left in a splint, perhaps it's a break.

Kennard Backman getting ejected so early didn't help us either.

That having been said, there were some positives. Offensive Line was incredibly approved (still too many penalties), Brown looked good early, and I'm not as concerned with the receivers as I was before the season started...although we need more production from the entire unit.

Nelson has picked up the slack with Jackie gone (still, you'd like to have them both), but the real story in the wide receivers last night was Jamari Staples. My, my...that kid is legitimate. And he's a true freshman. Hope he can keep it up, because we need him to.

We only had 4 players with more than 1 catch in the game - 2 were wide receivers, one was our running back, and the other was our tight end that got tossed early. I expected a more evenly distributed passing attack, but we had to take what Troy gave us.

I agree with all that.

With Hump, Staples, and JJ one has to wonder how much playing time Jackie would have received.

We're really good this year. We'll be fine. We look so much better than we did this time last year. It's fine.
Say it's fine one more time.

It will indeed be interesting to see how competitive the Blazers are in Conference USA Ultra Lite. By all rights, considering how long we've been in this conference, we should own it along with Southern Miss and ECU. In reality, well, we shall see.

That wasn't some miracle that Troy pulled off. It was UAB choking just like always. Do awesome for the first half, 3/4, 7/8 of the game and then cough it up at the end like you're the French Army

So you're OK with UAB being the butt of every joke told on sports radio in the City of Birmingham? I'm tired of hearing "it takes time" or "it'll happen soon!" I've been hearing that for nearly 14 years now, and some people have been hearing it for longer.
