I'm not even crazy about bowls in general but honestly, I am utterly amazed at what Commish Bano was able to do today. You have got to give the man his props for this marvelous achievement.
Ban Ban has taken a horrible beating on this board for years, but it turns out he's about 5 times the commish Aresco is.

doesn't hurt that he actually has real experience dealing w/ bowl games compared to a t.v. guy like Aresco

Aresco has real experience being a complete failure.
He didn't improve them. They are worse than before. Before CUSA had 3 bowls against Aq teams (OBE, SEC, and B10) now they have one (shared HOD/AFB). CUSA did well but not better than old cycle. They simply announced them faster.
The guy's an insider. He's worked under Nineas at the big 12 and has had 20 years to build contacts and relationships with power brokers and administrators across intercollegiate athletics. Aresco simply hasn't had the time nor they experience to build these relationships and its really showing.
Faster does not equal better. Let's see what AAC does now.

That is a lie. Better destinations, even a backup to the Indy Bowl. Liberty was a goner anyway. I'm not all about this, ooohhh oooohhh U gotta play a P5 program for your bowl game to mean something.

Considering what this conference lost, we gain more bowl access in the end. Don't matter who the competition is (which by the way is still pretty darn good) as long as our deserving programs have somewhere to play in the postseason.

What was fast about it? The P5 conferences announced their bowl lineups first. Then the MWC. Then CUSA. Fact is Aresco had been behind the power curve from the start. He trying to market the AAC into something they are not and it is hurting your current members.

Guess we'll have to disagree. I thought your old Liberty tie made your last cycle better. Hey I've already given u kudos. CUSA did well. Just not as well as before (Imho)

IMO you're wrong. We had 5 bowl tie-ins last season and 5 this season. Given what we lost, we did outstanding.

+100

The guy knows his contacts and it shows considering the AAC and MWC have a better product to sell but somehow little ol' C-USA came on top. The AAC will be fine and it's a nice conference but I feel sorry for them. From losing the AQ status to losing the Big East name to losing the Catholic schools to losing the recruiting advantage they had as being part of the Big Six to losing the bowls they had when they were AQ to having an incompetent commissioner......it's just been bad news after another.

The same way CUSA improved the TV contract when CUSA lost Cincy, USF and Louisville. The TV contact CUSA 1.0 had was 7.9 million or 890K per team from ESPN. The new TV contract with CUSA 2.0 was 14 million (7 million from Fox, 7 million from CSTV) or 1.17 million.

My question is what will Houston, UCF, Memphis, SMU, ECU and Tulsa think if say CUSA 3.0 would happen to get 2 million or more per team in the next TV contract....Especially now that we know that the AAC will get 1.7 million per team from ESPN. Even better what would Cincy, UConn and USF think, since they were at one time considered to be a "Have".

Even though Aresco has failed, this still won't happen. Contract will likely go down or at best stay the same when CUSA TV deals is renegotiated. Yes, banowsky has done well with the cards that were dealt his way. Good for CUSA

Bano forgot to mention the toilet bowl tie in.

Any bowl that features a cusa mac matchup deserves that title.

At this point the AAC will be creating bowl games against themselves, so I'd reserve criticism until AAC announce their lineup. If my math is right CUSA has 6 guaranteed yearly bowl slots with 2 more potentials. We have contracts with a total of 10 bowls. Say what you will, but most CUSA fans are pleasantly surprised, and checking the AAC board, most of their fans are worried as h---.
I have no idea how he did it.

I wish CUSA 2.0 stuck together and picked off the last of the Big East + La Tech for a 16 team league.

Tulsa played in the GMAC bowl two years in a row.

Why are we suddenly above playing the MAC?

Yeah really, with Tulsa playing a very solid BG team in a few weeks, bashing the MAC may come back to haunt some Golden Hurricane fans.
