Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced today that the conference has secured future relationships with ESPN Regional Television (ERT), a subsidiary of ESPN, to participate in five different bowl games over the next six years, securing three bowl positions per season.

The agreements are with four ESPN owned and operated bowls: the Beef `O' Brady's Bowl in St. Petersburg, Fla., Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas, Gildan New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque and the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl in Honolulu, as well as the Heart of Dallas Bowl presented by PlainsCapital Bank. These partnerships will include games following the 2014-2019 seasons and C-USA will participate in three of the five games each year.

"We are excited to announce new and extended bowl relationships with ESPN as we continue to build our future bowl lineup," Banowsky said. "ESPN does a tremendous job of hosting bowl games in amazing destinations and we are fortunate to have some great matchups in those games until 2020."

Conference USA will play a bowl game in North Texas each of the next six years, playing in the Heart of Dallas Bowl as well as the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl over that period. It will also participate in the Beef `O' Brady's Bowl and the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl three times each over the six-year span. C-USA will play in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl on an annual basis for all six years.

In these bowls, Conference USA will have the opportunity to face opponents from the ACC, American Athletic, Big 12, Big Ten and Mountain West Conferences.

...

Additional future bowl partnerships for Conference USA will be announced at a later date.
If there was any remaining doubt, this firmly cements RG's legacy as the biggest mistake Rice has ever made.
This article says C-USA also signed a 5-year agreement with the New Orleans Bowl (vs. Sun Belt, as usual).

Quote:C-USA officials are also negotiating bids for bowl games in the Bahamas, Boca Raton, Fla, and Shreveport, La.

Banowsky said earlier this summer that his goal was to ensure that all eligible conference teams had access to a bowl game.

C-USA is guaranteed six bowl bids this season, but all bowl contracts are up for renewal in 2014. The Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn. and Military Bowl in Annapolis, Md. did not extend agreements with C-USA.

UPDATE: Official C-USA announcement says New Orleans Bowl agreement is for six years: 2014-2019
Meanwhile, as of last week, the AAC has lined up two bowl connections, in the "snooze-worthy sites" of Annapolis and Birmingham.

Quote:The SEC announced that it is renewing its bowl tie in with the BBVA Compass Bowl, and ESPN is reporting that the SEC entrant will play a team from the American Athletic Conference in Birmingham for the next six seasons. BBVA Compass Bowl will be one of ten bowl tie-ins for the SEC.

This makes two more-or-less confirmed bids for the American, along with the Military Bowl in Annapolis. The conference has yet to announce its full bowl schedule, which they are probably still working on. ...

The ACC is the alternate if the SEC or American cannot provide a team for the BBVA Bowl. The ACC has a minimum of nine tie-ins, and sometimes ten tie-ins depending on the season.

There are mixed reports as to whether the BBVA will be the ninth or tenth selection for the SEC**. If the BBVA is tenth, and the SEC has more than two teams in the six premier bowls (two Playoff and four Access bowls), the American Athletic would play a team from another conference. The same would happen if BBVA is ninth and the SEC has three or more teams in the premier bowls.

If the SEC or ACC can't fill that spot, perhaps a C-USA opponent would come in, as when USF played East Carolina in 2006, when the bowl as called the PapaJohns.com Bowl.

On the plus side for the American, it has secured two bowl tie-ins Power 5 conferences, with the SEC in the BBVA Compass Bowl, and with the ACC in the Military Bowl. That puts the American ahead of the Mountain West and Conference USA, which each only have one bowl bid versus a Power 5 conference.

** Just think how artful the out-of-conference schedules must be for the SEC's lower-half teams for the conference to produce 9/10 bowl eligible squads.
Sounds like the future bowl lineup is coming along. Got to find a way to get into the Liberty Bowl for the last year of the tie-in.
It be interesting when Fox Sports 1 will start getting involved in the bowl picture. I wish we also had a chance to the Texas Bowl in Houston.

Glad to see the bowls in DFW and NOLA. Nice to have bowl options that are close to Houston.

Could create some interesting emotions at season's end.... If my team wins we go to bowl x (Shreveport, St. Petersburg), if my team loses I will be pounding umbrella drinks in the Bahamas. Talk about conflicted!!!

Maybe that's where our champ should go, lol.
15,000 seat stadium in Nassau. That has to be a record for the smallest site ever to host a postseason D1 bowl. Staying at the Atlantis again would be pretty cool though.

We would have a shot at a sell out!

Reminds me of the educational exam they gave me at my pre-draft physical in 1971. They had a series of pictures with four objects and you had to pick the one that didn't belong. It was something like a picture of a tank, a machine gun, a hand grenade, and a rake. The officer administering the test announced "don't think about failing this test...the fact that you found this place means you can pass the exam".

The grenade. The others yield best results when being held and used vs. being thrown away.

The tank. All the other items designed to be carried by a single person.
