So now Chiozza is top 24 player in the nation?

Proof that it's not the player, it's what coach/program the player commits to/signs with.

Actually this game is more about show boating.. Does not matter where the kid is ranked
Good for him. Wish him only good things.
A kid good from Memphis, good enough to play for Memphis, and doesn't play for Memphis, is not a "Memphis kid".

Absolutely.
Great job Chris! I Love Memphis but I wonder how many of the people who bash all the Memphis kids for leaving sent their kids or even theirselves went to other Universities because it was what was best for the them. # hypocrites

I blame the staff in this case. Should have been on a him a long time ago. Got on him way too late and we missed out. I think Pastner will regret it.
Chris is on his way to being a burger boy with his ranking rising. He is #28 on 247's newest rankings.

You are exactly right, if Memphis would have offered him a year ago he would be a Tiger now. We only offered after feeling pressured by all the other schools offering him. However, I don't really blame Josh. If he felt he wasn't good enough for us at the time then so be it but you cant blame the kid for feeling slighted after being ignored or the lack of interest he got until it became obvious that Pookie may not qualify!

He hasn't even broken the top 40 in Scout's new rankings. I don't think he'll be an AA, although he'll be a solid pg for the Gators in a few years.
He is tiny and a year ago he wasn't good enough.Josh wants a bigger guard and you can't blame him for that.
Chris Chiozza gets more love on this board than any other non-Tiger signee ever, especially considering the kid is about 5'10" with his shoes on.

It's gotten to the point where I hope he is terrible at Florida, just because I'm sick of hearing the coulda shoulda woulda crap from the Chiozza jock sniffers.

I'm sure he will be a good player, but let's stop acting like the Tigers missed out on the next college basketball superstar.

What does that make him?

Actually this post started out recognizing a local kid for representing the city in a big time event! It could have been Joe Blow and some of us would have still been happy for him to be representing our city. However it turned into a bashing of a 17 year old kid just because he didnt choose the school some wanted him to. I'm never in favor of bashing a high school kid.

Agreed. Just giving Chris and the city props. If we fell asleep on him and he excels elsewhere, why bash him. 01-wingedeagle
I'm happy for him to do well, and I think his recruitment shows that he would do better elsewhere.

To say that we fell asleep on him is just wrong. Pastner watched him quite a few times, and like every other high major coach, he knew CC's skills, but was watching to evaluate how he could handle elite and bigger players.

No other big time coaches had offered until the same event because that was where the question was answered enough.

Our offer may have come later than Florida's but it was a time measurable in hours.

Could we have offered him earlier, to have him as at least a backup? Yes. But if we could get a bigger guard with the same skills, would that have caused friction?

It is stated by some as a fact that he chose Fla bc we didn't offer earlier. If that is true, then he needs to be somewhere else.

I can understand that sort of emotional decision making. However (if that is truly the reason for the decision) I think we are better off not having a local player who interprets a coach's evaluative process as disrespect.

So again I'm happy for him but I don't think coming here would have been the best fit anyway based on how the decision seems to have been made.
Watching the game, he definitely has some amazing court vision and handles...
