3 Candidates to break into the Top 25 this fall:

WESTERN KENTUCKY HILLTOPPERS

ARKANSAS STATE RED WOLVES

UAB BLAZERS

Despite going just 3-9 last season, UAB did play Ohio State closely into the 4th quarter. They will surely lose down in the Bayou to LSU in Week 2, but if the Blazers can muster up an upset bid against Vanderbilt, they may gain some steam in the polls. 16 starters return and this is the second year under coach Garrick McGee. An opening road trip to Troy will be difficult, as will be the trip to Marshall. However the Blazers played Troy close and actually knocked off Marshall last November.
Weren't we ranked in the Hawaii Bowl yr for about a week after a win only to tank it the next week to fall out?
We could go undefeated and probably only barely sniff the Top 25, especially if LSU only has an okay season.

I disagree. We run the table and we might flirt with a top ten finish.
Regardless of the troy outcome, im feeling really confident against LSU. The coaching staff has beaten LSU before. LSU will be more inexperienced than ever on defense.
But when I look at the size on their depth chart, im scared for our players lives. 04-jawdrop

Yes, in the BCS rankings, but never in the AP or coaches poll, which I assume is what he's speaking of
Size isnt everything. Besides, our guys carry similar weights on somewhat shorter frames in many cases. Heck, Rabb will probably be able to run under some of those OL's.

I'm sure if you go back to when we played & won vs them, you'd see similar stats
If we had had to play LSU more than once in the 2000 season, we might have never beaten them again, but that is the way life is - you only get one shot at victory and we won. It was the last game Josh Booty ever started for LSU - he was replaced against UTK the next Saturday by Rohan Davie and LSU never looked back. They beat UTK and Bama that year, and two years later won the BCS NC. I have been told that LSU has not lost a OOC home game since that night.

I would bet that the video of that 2000 game will be shown to the LSU team at least once the week of that game.
At least once a day.
I'll revise my earlier statement. If we run the table, we'll be around #15, close to where Kent State was when they did basically the same thing last year.

When we beat them in 2000 we had 3 NFL defensive linemen. Kind of helps.
I bet the current LSU team and coaching staff doesn't care one bit about a game they lost almost a decade and a half ago. I hope they watch the entire game, but I doubt it, as it would take away from useful preparation

Wrong. Did you even look at Kent State's schedule? They lost by 33 to a crap Kentucky team. Their best win was over Rutgers. Not much there.

If UAB somehow wins @LSU and @Vandy, and then runs a C-USA schedule with Marshall, ECU, and Rice on it, UAB would be ranked in the top 10 barring some crazy run of undefeated teams this year. This is all hypothetical BS, because there is pretty much no chance of winning @LSU, but if it happened, the team would be ranked high.

I also think the author of this story was drunk, high, or some mixture of both to have included UAB on this list. Until we prove we can play a little bit of defense, this is nowhere near a top 25 team.
I agree, as I believe the author was drunk as well.

Regarding LSU, if UAB can hold them to 10 points again, UAB wins the game. Very little chance of that happening, but you never know.
I don't think the author expects it. I think it's more of a sentiment of: "for arguments sake, let's say 3 meteors hit the city at noon today...I'll take a stab at predicting which 3 buildings they hit"

+1.

In 2012,

Troy beat - Navy, N.Texas, S. Alabama, FIU & UAB.

Tulane beat - SMU & UAB

Memphis beat - Rice, Tulane, S. Miss & UAB

-----

Win those 3, and don't make Tulane's QB & WRs look like Drew Brees & Marques Colston slipped in to have a fun day, and we can start dreaming about being ranked. Until then ... 03-puke

In his defense, his article's premise limited him to picking 3 teams out of the only 21 D-1 football programs that have never been ranked. Using those 21 teams as the entire universe, UAB probably has a 14% chance to crack the top 25 (which is the article's conclusion). But I don't think he actually believes there a snowball's chance in hell it would happen in the real universe. When he was drunk or high or some mixture of both was when he decided to use this as an angle for an article. Because it's incredibly stupid.
