I thought we broke into the BCS poll the week after the win over TCU on Thursday night, then promptly shat the bed at Tulane and went down the crapper from there.

Am I wrong?
This thread should be a case study in delusion.
GO BLAZERS!!!

This fan base is so awesome! The Eeyore of college athletics!
If there was one thing on defense that we did improve on last season, at least everyone ran to the guy with the ball. Instead of giving him a pat on the back as he ran to the endzone.

You're not wrong. See posts 7 & 9

We were 3-9 last year. Teams don't typically go from 3-9, with a history of bad/under performing teams, to the top 25 in one year. With the right coach, and the right circumstances, sure UAB could crack the top 25. This is not that year.

And we aren't Eeyore, we are realistic. When it comes down to it, every fan on this board would be too. If I told you that you had to place a $1000 bet, straight up, on every UAB game this season, I guarantee you not one person on this board would take UAB over LSU. You guys can sit here and say we're going to win every game. We are a good team. Blah, blah, blah.

I'm tired of the talk every year. This is going to be the year. Oh wait, next year. Oops, try again. Let's win some freaking games, and then we can talk about being a potential top 25 team. There is nothing wrong with looking at things realistically.
There's also nothing wrong with looking at things optimistically, either.

Would I bet $1000? No, but I'm not prepared to concede them, either.
but if you don't believe that UAB will win every single game, you arent a true fan...i know that for fact, because thats what ive been told by multiple BlazerTalk members
Easy, I wasn't calling out anyone's fandom, just making a general observation about the way in which most who claim the green and gold tend to approach their fandom (an opinion formed from both being a part of this message board and sitting in the stands of many UAB sporting events).

Some like to take the negative approach and be surprised when we win, others search for the positives and would rather be proven wrong at the expense of a loss. I tend to like the latter because it makes being a fan much more enjoyable (to me). However, if your curmudgeonry is pleasant to you (you in general, not personal), then by all means, be realistic.

I understand that both sides genuinely love UAB with all of their hearts and desire only the best.

I'm not really negative about the team, I just need to see some things proven to me at this point. Every year is going to be the year in football. I'm tired of hearing about it, I just want to see the damn thing done.

Do I think we can win @LSU this year? Not a chance in hell. Do I think every other game on the schedule is winnable? I sure do. Does that mean I think we'll go 11-1? Nope.

I'm never shocked by UAB winning any game(unless they pulled off this LSU game), and I'm never shocked by UAB losing any game.(going the opposite way, NW St would be a shocker)

I choose to be quite optimistic when it comes to UAB sports. I looked for improvement and positives in both sports last season, when many were simply looking at L's and W's instead of the bigger picture.

I hope the team comes out this season and performs at a consistent level. I hope we see improvement in each and every game. I hope McGee walks the walk this season, and I hope we win the East. That is where I see the ceiling for the team this season. I've been wrong before, I just don't see a team that played virtually no defense last season becoming one of the best teams in the conference over the course of one off season.

And Smaug, my point with the $1000 bet is if you aren't willing to make that bet it means you don't truly believe the team will win that game. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, and it doesn't make you any less of a fan.

Yeah, I wasn't referring to you. Just pointing I that I literally have been told that I wasn't a real fan (multiple times) bc I predicted a loss.
Since I figured it was coming, I just figured I'd go ahead and get to it
Um, you aren't a real fan. That has already been established.

Yeah, you are what we call a fake fan. You don't think UAB will win every game they ever play(based on the 37 NCAA Titles in football and basketball combined), so that means you aren't a real fan. Don't worry, I'm not a real fan either.

If you know how to do it right, the blue font is not needed
Who, after all, is a "true fan"? Keep in mind that before the 2000 season, UAB was asked by the conference to designate one of its two BCS OOC games as a proxy conference game since we were short one on our schedule. We could choose either the @ Kansas game or the @ LSU game. Between the two, the staff chose the @ Kansas game over the @ LSU game as the one we would have the best chance of winning, and NO ONE overtly protested the choice. As it turned out, we lost @ Kansas and won @ LSU. We hope for the best (victory) and cheer for success. GO BLAZERS!!!!!!!
We should have beaten Kansas.

I've read your post several times. I can't figure out what your first sentence has to do with the rest of your post.

Wrong. Did you even look at Kent State's schedule?

No.

But I seriously do believe this is the year. I'm so excited, I've got itches in my britches. And I'm being dead serious here.
