Paraphrased:

What we're doing at UAB is amazing, but most people aren't even aware of what we're doing. Did you know UAB has preformed the second most kidney transplants of anywhere in the world? We're second only the Cal-San Francisco only because they started 10 years before us. We've positively changed the lives of those patients and their families-thousands of people!

We're going to have the biggest and broadest media campaign that we've ever had to go along with our capital campaign starting in October.
Preach it.
He also said enrollment is over 18,000, and honors students entering UAB are up from a previous cap around 200 to around 330.
Hopefully UAB can build on the momentum of Birmingham's Railroad Park, Region's Field, and increased development around downtown Birmingham in general. Both UAB and Birmingham's future are intertwined. I think the increasing positive press in the national and local media about Birmingham will help UAB as we aim to achieve a record-setting capital campaign.
The Railroad Park area is really taking off.........the land swaps between the city and UAB are looking good for both sides.
A new dorm is about to be constructed.

I knew that was part of the master plan, but has it been approved yet? Where exactly will it be?

It was approved at the last board meeting (actually now I think two board meetings ago). On the corner of 14th st and 10th ave
UAB is succeeding in spite of all of the naysayers.

I'm proud to tell people I'm a fan of UAB. I'm a fan of the university and I'm a fan of the athletic teams.

People will tell me that is fine and well, but in football do I root for BAMA or Auburn. I proudly tell them I root for neither. I'm a UAB fan.

Break the tradition. Go Blazers!
Same here, I tell them that I like Alabama and Auburn fine, but I pull for UAB, and that I'm an UAB fan. I tell the meaner Alabama fans that anybody can be an Alabama fan, but it takes a special person to pull for UAB -lol.

True dat!
Exciting times at UAB. Both the new dorm and new HUC should be done in 2015 and the drawings for each look impressive. The new Visual Arts Center is coming along nicely across from the Alys Stephens Center and should open this fall. The transit system should be running full blast in a few months as well.
All of this is great, but just makes the black mark of the OCS that much uglier to me.

Could you imagine the excitement level/momentum if that rug had not been pulled out from under the campus?

The excitement level would be off the charts.
