The Good News: NIU is the highest ranked MAC team

The Bad News: No MAC team is ranked in the top 75.

Ball State maybe the biggest disappointment starting at 96.

MAC will be lucky to get 2 bowl eligible teams if this outlook is right.

For those who don't have it, here's a better link to preseason prognostication. I'm sure a few more will be added.

There is no way the MAC only has 2 eligible bowl teams. That means only the two teams in the MACC have 6 wins. NIU, Ohio, and Bowling Green are almost all guaranteed 6 conference wins alone.
hahahahahaha
That is such a joke.
What a joke.

Do not confuse bowl eligible with a ranking or visa versa. This is NOT endorsing CFN, but remember this is a "pre-season" ranking. Even if you took the post regular-season ranking, bowl slots do not get filled based strictly on those ratings. Would Jerry Pettibone's 10-2 Huskie squad not have been rated in the top 40? Of course not, but back but between politics and fewer bowl slots, NIU got screwed big time. Now fast forward to just the most recent bowl season. How many uninteresting bowl games did you happen upon that had fairly mediocre teams playing in them? Don't go off the deep end in putting too much importance on these things .... out of curiousity, how many people remember where the top three MAC teams were rated in CFN's 2012 pre-seson rankings? Better question, did it matter?

I was responding to Maddawgz saying if CFN is right there would only be two bowl eligible teams. I know how all that works, and right now for a MAC team to get one of three guaranteed slots you need to be in the MACC or be 6-6 and chosen. I was saying, there will be at least 3 teams that have 6 or more wins just in conference play making them bowl eligible, it had nothing to to with the rankings.

NIU was 81 in the preseason 2012 poll, so finishing 22 last year, that's 59 spot difference, so accounting for the CFN bias NIU should finish 76-59 = 17!
Actually, rankings don't mean anything to me this year, we know NIU wont be allowed to be ranked high enough to matter. My main 4 hopes for this year are:

1) Beat Iowa
2) Win 3rd straight MACC
3) Remain undefeated at home
4) Play a non-affiliated MAC bowl opponent

Id love to see how many of NIU's 19 coaches points in the poll came from the MAC, I'd bet its 17-19.
Well, you know they won't come from the Big 12. We won't get any votes from those coaches all year. Just watch.

Know I'm getting old and my eyesight isn't what it used to be, but does Hinnen have Ole Miss ranked ninth in his poll and the Rebels do not even appear in the top 25 of any of the others? Is that an example of genuis or being ill-informed?

I noticed this a month ago when looking at the 6 major preseason polls, Ole Miss has the highest departure in thinking of any team in the country. That is also reflected in those Massey standard deviations, they have the highest standard deviation in the country.
