I'm starting to think maybe not. It seems that every week another story comes out and I'm wondering if there might be some very damaging, at least as far as a college career goes, stuff.

It would be too bad for CFB and in particular the Bama-aTm game but I'm starting to get immune to caring about these incidents. I used to get pissed because these incidents robbed fans of the chance to see good games.
ESPN blogger who broke the story: "This happened back in February, there's no evidence of this at all and the NCAA isn't even formally investigating it but here's my theory the day before practices start"

ESPN Reporter who saw a video that the owner wont release: "Johnny was offered money but didn't take it...was later rephrased as "there was talk of money!"

Call me when there's some real evidence and not just an ESPN who is getting killed in their summer ratings and desperate for one last Johnny Drama story before FB starts.
I think Johnny will get 4 games. That is what A.J. Green received for a similar merchandise sale. The war will be won against the NCAA, though. All of the direct connections that show the marketing of players, whether in video games or the NCAA's actual merch website, is going to win the day for players.
NCAA probably ticked off because They didn't receive a cut of the pie if there was some.
4 or 5 game suspension IMO

apparently this same "broker" has signed memorabilia from other top players as well. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
He's going to **** the bed this year. It was a mistake giving the Heisman to a freshman.

Maybe someone with a doctorate in psychology can explain it, but we never want to see athletes making money. For whatever reason too many people are way, way bothered by it.

Go pick up a copy of The Sporting News from any year. In the 1960‘s there were complaints about guys being paid $5,000 a year to play a kid’s game.

These arguments almost always go like this: “You can’t pay these guys- where is the money going to come from?”. Then when something as WACKY as...wait for it...FREE ENTERPRISE is suggested, something that even averts the Title IX excuse, we get all kinds of imaginary doomsday scenarios.

Riiiiiiggggghhhhhttt...go back and check those old Sporting News issues- baseball was going to collapse in the 1970‘s when the players won free agency. Sure it did. The Olympics would soon be a thing of the past when professional, sponsored athletes were allowed to compete. Uh huh.

But I’m now supposed to believe that college athletics would be adversely affected by players selling autographs.

Come on, we’re smarter than that. We can’t ignore history. People just like the players not having money. Why? Because.. because.. because.. because.. because... because... because ...just because.
It's a joke saying that it was a mistake to give the heisman to a freshman last year. he was the best player last year. Period. The class any player should be totally irrelevent to the heisman or any other award.

How did Tech handle it when their freshman QB won the Heisman?

Oh but wait, they didn't...remind me again how many Heisman winners Tech has?

If your only response is to attack then you know you are guilty and F'ed.
They say they have Manziel on video saying to the client..(paraphrasing) "I was never here and if you say anything I will not do any future business with you." If they have this it is bad. I hope he didn't ruin himself for $7500. I am still with 10th. Innocent until proven guilty. A few days will clear this one way or the other. The client is also refusing to cooperate with the NCAA.
I hope that this all blows over. If it doesn't, then the NCAA will have to decide whether to come down hard on Manziel. If they let Manziel off, then they've essentially opened up Pandora's Box.

JM needs to just be an athlete for the next year or so. I would like to see the kid graduate and make it into the NFL. He's got talent - and he's almost as entertaining to watch as RG3 (huge MD area Skins fan here :D).

He was not head and shoulders above every player last year. If you only watched espn you would think that. How about Klien out of KSU? Clowney? These are just off the top of my head. I'm sure if I number crunched I'd find more.
Klein fell apart in the game that they lost- 27/50 with 2 td and 3 int for less than 300 yards- vs a Baylor team that was sub .500
meanwhile-
Manzel was 24/31 with 2 td and 0 int for 253 yards- but then 18 rushes for 92 yards- against #1 Alabama

I'm sorry, but nothing compared all year long to that against the best team in the country.

As a grad of Texas Tech University, I'm glad we don't have to deal with a drama queen even it means no Heisman. I want players who have integrity and respect for the school. Most t-shirt fans could care less about that as long as they get to brag about W's and Heisman's.

Oh please, you think one game should determine the best player in the country? Klein has one bad game and thats it, not good enough, but Manziel has some bad games and we can just forget those because he beat Bama. How about his 0 TD/3 INT game against LSU? 29 for 56 with a QB rating of 82. Yeah, he was UNSTOPPABLE!!!! hahaha

@ Ole Miss 17-26 191 1TD/2Int

Collin Kleins lowest QB rating was 90 in the Fiesta Bowl. He was the team last year, unlike Manziel who had folks to help him win games.

Clowney was by far the most dominate defensive player last year and for the recent past. He was a beast last year.
Can we just agree to call Manziel the "Money Badger"
Manzel's 2nd worst game- vs Florida(1st game)- he had a 125.1 rating.

Klein played 3 real defenses last year- 4 if you include Oregon. His performances:
Oklahoma 13/21 149 0 td 0 int 121.5
TCU 12/21 145 0 td 1 int 105.6
Baylor 27/50 286 2 td 3 int 103.2
Oregon 17/32 151 1 td 2 int 90.6
so 6 int in those 4 games combined.

I'm sorry, but Klein isn't in the same stratosphere at all as Manzel. A major part of the reason his numbers were so good is they were in the Big 12. West Va 19/21 323 3 td 0 int.

as far as Clowney, there was question whether he was the best defensive player last year with T'eo.
