That was the year of our last trade surplus so for 38 years we have had a trade deficit.

so trucks stop running. Don't drive to work. No more electric. Solar, Wind are not cost effective. Hope you stopped using natural gas to heat your home, coal fired electric to power your AC and lights and gas for your car. FYI, demand is decreasing because cars are more efficient. But why not use it to save our country. Then we don't need to give a crap what happens in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran etc. They would become irrelevant to us.
When did oil, coal and natural gas become a bad thing.

How about we do everything possible to transition home and commercial energy needs to renewables and liquify the natural gas currently that currently heats homes and hot water into motor fuel.

Nat gas is the cleanest burning petroleum product and there should be plenty of it when our home and commercial needs are met by renewables.

Gas mileage on cars is increasing but you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Cheaper energy costs means manufacturing can produce product cheaper in spite of higher wages compared to China and the Far East. It strengthens are economy. It allows us to not rely on Middle east for oil and it reduces our credit card debt(Trade Deficit). $40 billion dollars of U.S. wealth is leaving the country every month because we buy more foreign product then we sell. Name me one energy source that is more reliable, efficient and cost effective than Oil, natural gas and coal. But many want to tie one hand behind our backs and then compete with third world countries.

The only other way to change things is for people to stop buying product from foreign countries. So no TVs, Computers, Cell Phones etc.

Who exactly is this "we" to whom you are referring?

If it is we-the consumers, then we are smart enough, and should be free enough, to make our own decisions on what to buy. If you think there is a future in natural gas, then buy it, invest in it, and I admire your entrepeneureal spirit and wish you luck.

On the the other hand, if you are referring to we-the government deciding to ignore market forces, and shut down coal mines and pipelines, and invest tax payer money in solar companies and the like that immediately go bankrupt; we have seen how well that turns out. "Good intentions" do not trump supply and demand. I get a little intimidated when the Government does "everything possible".

If there is a more efficient way of generating power, the market will find it long before the Government ever will.
Decrease demand, increase production. The problems solve themselves when you start doing that.

Been there, done that. Any more suggestions?

You mean doing that, with great results.
