Myles Nicholas, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound outside linebacker 16th player to commit to play football at Old Dominion next season.

Nicholas turned down the University of Buffalo, a Mid-American Conference school 90 minutes from his home.

He committed to ODU sight unseen - he hasn't seen ODU's campus
"Coach Whitcomb was a huge factor in my decision," he said. "So was Cullen. The campus is next to the beach. It's a great place to go to college, even if you're not going to play football."

Turning down Buffalo, he said, "was a difficult decision. But I felt like I needed to get away from home a little bit, to do my own thing."

He'd been waiting for a Rutgers offer and it seems like they dragged their feet and or went in another direction.
He was quoted as saying back in March something a long the lines of "If they [Rutgers] offer me at the camp I'll likely take it on the spot." Thankfully for us they did as dj said. 6-3 ~220 OLB sounds awesome.
Hopefully he will stay committed even if Rutgers offers.

I just checked Rutgers 24/7 board. They have committments from three OLB's in the '14 class. Sidney Gopre 3* 89, Justin Nelson 3* 88, and Brandon Russell N/R. I was thinking the same thing, but it probably won't happen unless one of those falls through.
I think I saw a 4.7 for his 40 time. I would like to see him improve that to a 4.5.

I care less about how fast he runs in a straight line and more about how he gets around a corner.

I think I remember reading that 4.7 was his best time. He was clocked most recently at a recent camp (Syracuse) in the 4.9s.
From the video, it looks like be has good reaction time and good lateral movement. He definitely has a knack for getting to the ball.
I would like to thank Buffalo. for being really, really cold.

Agreed. However, I'd like to see the staff follow the SEC model. RS him, get him in the weight room/cafeteria, put on 30+ lbs of muscle, maintain current speed and switch him to DE. Get him to continue that model on lesser scale (10 lbs each offseason after RS year) throughout career, goal of being 270+ by junior year.
I hope he finds that beach right next to campus.
03-shhhh No one tell him that it's a 30-minute drive to Virginia Beach without traffic.

To us that sucks. But he's got to drive a minimum of 6 hours (no traffic) just to get the the Jersey Shore. And that's the North Jersey Shore. Not the nice south Jersey beaches.

He can always go to Ocean View and East Beach. Short drive, half the crowd and no cost to park. It's not Sandbridge or the boardwalk but it's not bad when you're just trying to get a quick trip in.
If they would extend light rail from the campus all the way to the oceanfront, that would be a great recruiting tool.
