Went over to Clifton on Sunday so I could buy a white T shirt at DuBois.
Stopped over at Keystone Bar and it is refreshing to see a couple of new bar restaurants that have higher end finishes on campus. St. Clair is next to Keytsone. Outdoor seating also of course.

I like Mac's and places like that but slightly more upscale stuff is a
nice change. The Brass Tap is going to have to move quick to open by the first game. Contractors are still framing and hanging dry wall. They will have about 80 beer selections on tap and about 300 bottle selections.
U Square should be hopping on game days I'd imagine.
Stopped up to check it all out 4th of July week when I was home and to say I was blown away is an understatement. Would love to be a freshman starting at UC now...
Seriously...why couldn't this have been built 8 years sooner. Side point, you guys should get ready for some major news involving Short Vine here soon. Very impressive designs going around right now, but nothing has been finalized yet. Bowling Alley and Movie theater along with multi use retail-residential. Very reminiscent of The Crossroads on High Street up on OSU's campus.
I don't think it's all done yet either. The Kroger is supposed rebuilt in the plaza in Corryville and the corner at Vine and McMillian is a disaster. Something will go in there very soon. I'm certain something is in the works, but no one seems to know anything. Kroger seems to be dragging it's feet there for some reason. Clifton needs a large Kroger Marketplace store. What is defined as the U-Square may be close to complete, but McMillian and the Corryville area still need work.

Its been widely reported that that project would not begin until the IGA on Ludlow was reopened so that the area had an operating grocery store. Kroger is not dragging their feet one bit, they want that project done as soon as possible, because they know how profitable it will be.

I'm still waiting for the RFQ stage to begin on the office space that was proposed for the corners of Jefferson, Calhoun and McMillan. That was initially stage 3 of the U Square project. The Kroger complex is another project entirely headed up by the same overarching community improvement skeleton group, CUFURCH or something thereabouts.
Kroghetto was a mint for the company even when it was a dump. A marketplace would dominate, though it would surely cannibalize the Kenard and Hyde Park locations. Those were the spots where I got food, vine was more for beer, chips, snacks.
The holdup on the Kroger renovations is the Rent-a-Center won't leave until it's lease expires because it makes bank at that location. Unfortunately that's because Rent-a-centers are pretty predatory in low-income areas but that was the last word i heard on that.

I had heard the same a couple years ago.

LOL!!!! When I went to school at UC (mid 90's) I would go to that Kroger and I used to say they should have "Welcome to the Jungle" playing on loudspeakers at that place in a continuous loop....

i don't know how how bunched up they like the marketplaces to be, but the one in my hood (off mitchell) is undergoing the transformation. that's like three miles if that
I loved going to that Kroger in the 80's. Of course, I usually went Sunday night around 11 PM when the place was almost deserted.
As soon as the lease expires they will have a new Krogers and new Walgreens I think they are going to face each other or some different configuration, but it cannot come soon enough...Went to Keystone and it is beautiful, fun and a major addition to U Square! Everyday the Square has another opening it is almost shocking the transformation that has taken place. Left at about 11:15 last night and the place was a buzz on a weeknight with no students yet.
I'd weigh 50-60lbs more than I do if Waffle House had been open when I was younger.

Yep...whoever decided to start that franchise could be one of the smartest people in the Tri-State. That and Raisin' Cain's would be completely cash guzzlers there. Waffle House will be packed every weekend from Midnight to about 4am and from 11am to about 2 pm lol

Here is Jim Gaffigan's take on Waffle House...hilarious!

Brass Tap opening soon.
Great pics...the back part of Keystone is even more sports/elegant if you will. Great combo of decor, sports, and music with lots of big screens done very tastefully. Kinda cool you can go thru a common hallway near the restrooms to St Clair Bar they even share sinks int he middle. Same owners etc. Cannot wait to Brass Tap...I heard there was another Bar coming with an upstairs location? But cannot verify that?
Not the best pictures, but it gives a little idea on the streetscape:

Edited to add: While this is an improvement over what was torn down, I'm a bit disappointed in the design. Seems a bit generic to me, not at all worthy of sitting next to a campus full of architectural wonder. Doesn't exactly blend into the surrounding neighborhood, either.
