Anyone know the background story here? Sounds like there is more to the firing than what is being said. Interesting that the former players that came to Spitale's defense all played about 10 years ago.

Though Leitke and Spitale do not have the best overall record, they have an overall winning record in the MAC with only 2 losing seasons. In 2011 they were both regular season and tournament champs.
BCBronco is our resident Softball expert.

I know nothing other than what was on MLive.

The timing (two months after season) is unusual and sounds like decision was made by Beauregard, not Leitke.

HC should have right to hire-fire own staff unless there are some really untoward extenuating circumstances.
Think Rob Buck

What I might know I would not share on a public discussion board. Buy me a beer at Roadside and we'll chat. LOL

Not the first time Kathy has had to deal with something like this.

Former player-turned assistant coach in a different sport.
Yep I know. It's a little disturbing
Someone private message me and tell me what is going on with this. Who is Rob Buck?

That would qualify as "untoward extenuating circumstances."

LOL. No motorcycle crash though.

Well, Kathy can't follow all Athletic Department personnel around all the time any more than coaches can their players.

Besides, head coaches like Leitke are primarily responsible for conduct of those in their program - especially someone with title of "associate head coach."

Agree with the personal accountability sentiment, but the pattern is what's concerning. Like, that type of behavior isn't really "frowned upon"? Much like cultures at workplaces that aren't really "forthcoming" with information, the top casts a long shadow.
Kathy wasn't AD when Buck was here.

Two such incidents, last one almost a decade ago, in 15 years more like a coincidence than a trend or tolerance.
We have had more. Not going to belabor it any longer.

Fair enough, I'll take your word for it.
First time CD mentioned Rob Buck, I thought 10,000 Maniacs. 03-lmfao03-lmfao

Then I realized he meant our Rob Buck. Forgot about him.

Womens basketball assistant (5?) years ago?
Amongst others, yep. We're were very close to have a "Eustachy moment" too, before Larry's incident.
