According to multiple sources any shake-up which will result in a new "Super Division" will include not only The American, but also C-USA and the Mountain West. Geoff Caukins says all is fine and Memphis will be safe. Pete Trammell of Sports Illustrated saying the same thing.

Relax everyone - we're going to be fine.

Geoff? Not so much. Pete Trammell of Sports Illustrated? Yeah - he's an insider and a reliable source.

GC didn't break that story. I brought it up about it being in the first article earlier this week. They interiewed several conference admins about it. The Big 5 can't exist on their own. The Little 3 will fill in the gap for the three remaing games once all conferences move to 9 game schedules. There was also talk of a 13th game with a standard start week for everyone. That would still leave time for an open date and conference championship game before bowls. For TV, only Sunday & Monday would be avoided. We are pretty much already there.

Then what should I panic about?

Are you married? Do you have kids? That should provide plenty of fodder. Let me know if you need additional topics.

This forum needs a random panic subject generator for moments such as this.
So essentially leaving the MAC and Sunbelt and a handful of Independents?

If they play D1 football- there should be no formal separation. Informal will always happen...but this is still wrongheaded.

Not sure at the moment. Why not just go with generalized anxiety for a while? I'm sure a panic attack worthy situation will present itself soon enough.
Some of the largest purchasers of ad time on college FB are major supporters of schools outside the P5. Including FedEx, Proctor & Gamble, Kroger, Shell, and Chesapeake.
So that's 8 conferences in. Curious about CUSA over the MAC but I suppose that could still change. Anyhow that will set up really nicely for a 16 team playoff. You'd have the 8 conference champions plus 8 at large spots. There will always be arguments over the 14-16 spots about who should get in but there would be very little doubt that the top 10 teams (at least) were included in the playoff. Should be interesting to see how this plays out. If it involves paying ALL scholarship athletes a stipend then some of the schools currently in the included conferences may opt out of the upper division.....
i smell a lawsuit or 10

Running out of valium, getting low on Stoli, can't remember where you hid your stash just to name a few.
Get back to me when you can tell me how recruiting will be affected...

Not what was said by Larry Scott, P12 commish, yesterday, or reported by Pete Thamel of SI earlier this week. In their version, it will be all 10 FBS conferences, plus the Big East, the A-10, and perhaps the WCC and maybe 2 other basketball conferences.

This is only about getting the $2000 stipend passed, and similar future issues. In this version, the P5 get veto power, and if a new rule passes, any participating conference or school can choose not to implement it. The example of full training tables was used.

This is mostly to prevent the small Div. 1 BB schools from killing legislation the P5 schools want, like the stipend.

Bowlsby of the B12 did say 7 or 8 conferences, but I doubt that flies, if the other two or three want in. Either way, we're in.
Pete Thamel @SIPeteThamel should get the credit , who is Pete Trammell ?

I think he confused it with an OK writer whose last name is Trammel.

even though most of the P5 media days have denied this, I think Geoff has an ESPN insider acct.

America must eventually default on its national debt as 40% is short term, yearly renewable debt...when this happens we will have to print dollars to cover ourselves causing devaluation of national currency and triple digit inflation...loss of buying power causes depression level economics I'm many parts of the world and a massive recession here
