NCAA to change how they rule

Quote:“There’s a need to recognize there are Division I schools with $5 million athletic budgets and $155 million athletic budgets, and trying to find a model that fits all of them is the enormous challenge right now,” Emmert said.

Quote:“We all have a sense that transformative change is going to have to happen,” Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said earlier this week. “This is not a time when trimming around the edges is going to make very much difference.”

For the record, reports are saying the AAC WILL be included in the new big-boy configuration.

Temple, SMU not listed; but less show up lower than us on other comparable lists. The only other non BCS school ahead of us, that has never been in a BCS conference is UNLV. From various articles (not linked; sorry), it seems that Cincy has been mortgaging its future to try and get into the ACC. They are spending money like it is going out of style (by their standards) and are operating at a huge annual deficit.

NCAA Revenues/ Expenses
So it looks like Cincy and UConn are the enemy

I would think so. If I had to rank them...

Cincy
UConn
USF/UCF
Houston
SMU

I doubt the Big 12 would take either USF or UCF and I doubt that the ACC would take both USF and UCF.

I doubt that the Big 12 would take both SMU and Houston, and I would think that SMU and Houston are out of play for the ACC.

Boise, SDSU and BYU would be PAC12 or nothing, so it probably wouldn't affect us.
UNLV is building a stadium that would donkey kick the Liberty Bowl.

The stadium will be much nicer than every single NFL stadium with the exception of Cowboys' Stadium. At 60,000 seats it will probably be a better place to watch a ballgame. $800 million in the budget. Whether or not that translates into increased attendance for UNLV games, an improved product and improves their position to get into a BCS conference, is debatable. There is no way the PAC12 or Big Ten take them, and they are in the middle of nowhere relative to every other conference.

I could see the B12 taking a Florida market in certain situations. ACC as well, depending on if their FL markets ever leave.
I think Houston is to the Big XII just like Memphis is to the SEC which is persona non grata. So maybe is SMU. I think the Big XII got a little hasty taking TCU.

I could see the ACC taking either USF or UCF, but not both. As for the Big 12 taking either of the Florida programs; I just don't see it.

I agree. Also, I might get bashed for saying this; but my perception is that most Texans don't like Houston and Waco. Whether or not this is meaningful; who knows?
No conference is likely adding more teams any time soon. The issue is what conferences will be included in the new NCAA division, along with the P5. Some say nobody. Some say a few extra schools who could be independent. Some say the AAC. Some say the AAC and MWC.

But I think Pete Thamel of SI got it right yesterday. His sources say the new division is likely going to be all 10 FBS conferences, plus probably the Big East and A-10, and perhaps the WCC and a couple more BB conferences. All the other D-1 schools will essentially be D-2 now. And the P5 will have veto power.
There is nothing final about anything regarding UNLV and it's new stadium. Everything is still in proposal stage
