If you're going to do something you might as well do it completely and do it correctly. That seems to be the mentality of Danny White who has gone far further with this "New York" campaign than I had thought he would have, or could have.

It worked for Texas State.
As a native New Yorker, I was always disappointed that we didn't have one main campus like Ann Arbor or Chapel Hill for our state university. I guess Buffalo is as close as it gets, even though it's classified the same as Albany, Stony Brook, and Binghamton.

You should be extremely happy you don't have one set of elitist bastards from one school dominating the funding and politics of your system for the benefit on just one school at the expense of the others.

Well you get 4 good schools much like California has multiple top ranked schools. Cal, UCLA, UC-Davis, UC-San Diego are all top ranked even if not all in sports. UC-Santa Barbara, UC-Irvine and UC Riverside are all highly regarded as well.

Texas is a mess where you have resources split and no clear delineation between research and teaching universities. There's Texas, then Texas A&M, but its a mess after that.

Maybe they should stick an outline of the state around the "UB" on the helmet.
I think they should try a "Not Quite Canada" campaign if this fails.

In all seriousness, smart move by the Bulls. They are the state's only FBS-playing public school, so they might as well try to milk it for all it is worth.
I might go with Niagara Falls University, mascot can be some dude in a barrel. I don't really see buffalo getting the market for u of New York but i guess they can try....doubt the empire state building goes with a buffalo/u of N Y bull theme.
Ah, it's good to see the moronic battle for the hearts and minds of New York's dozens of college football fans continue.

It'd be cool if the blogger re-read his work before posting. He couldn't even make it past the lede without committing multiple mistakes:

Quote:So the basketball cout and advertising campaign were not enough how about this!
Smart marketing on their part. Let's see if it pays off
It would be cool if Buffalo rebranded itself as New York State (University) or University of New York. It would definitely get more respect without anyone knowing a thing about UB.
Good start and long overdue.
Seems like they are fitting. the B10 profile more and more. 03-shhhh
Now if they could only improve the product on the field and court.

If they could become the "It" school for kids coming out of Ontario, they could succeed very quickly, especially in basketball.
Same approach taken by the University of Louisiana Lafayette.

Niagara already has the purps..
Since the waiting list for New York Giant season tickets is approaching 50 years, maybe Buffalo should just copy the Giants' "NY" logo on their helmet. Millions of confused New Yorkers may jump on the Bulls' bandwagon.

Some time ago (just after 2000 I think) a wealthy New Yorker offered to give the AD some millions of dollars if they changed the name to "New York State University"...

The school declined...

Hurley has been up there, a lot, since he was hired by the U... I think he will really try to hit Canada hard for hoops.
