Why all the talk about some royal baby born in England? Is it really that important to the average American? I don't quite understand why folks here give a rat's patooty. What am I missing?

It's a manufactured hoopla. I haven't found too many people that really care. I suppose it's better than some of the other news out there though.

Agree. Its media..
meanwhile, gary parrish said he would gain some interest should she decide to name the kid Jamal
The coverage of the royal family is the most absurd crap. It's on the level of the Kardashians
Too many Americans are sheep that follow whatever is on the news. Personally, since I didn't knock her up I could care less what popped out of the royal hoo-ha.
I find it interesting that Americans are so interested in the Royals. We have NEVER had a royal family except for celebrities. I think that is all it is here. Then again most that are really into this are women and every woman dreams of being swept off her feet by prince charming or William.

I think it's just the princess idea.

I could care less but good for the royal family.
My Irish heritage forbids me to care what pops out of a British "royal" virginee. Up the Republic!

wouldnt mind a crack at that royal hooha myself...
I love this stuff because:

I am a student of history, esp. English history, because it is fascinating and England has been such a major player in world history
I love seeing all the English architecture and cathedrals on tv, since I majored in Art History (like Kate)
I find the cultural differences interesting
England is our greatest political ally
What woman does not like fashion, babies, family drama, castles, and pomp and circumstance? Esp. when there is a cultural difference to it all.
I have traveled to England and I hope to again, so it just whets my appetite to return

FWIW, I can't stand the Kardashians, I don't even own a tv, and I don't know who half the celebrities are today. I also have Irish and Scottish ancestors, along with English, and yes, I know how HORRIBLE the English were to those two groups over centuries of English rule.
We fought a revolutionary war so we wouldn't have to care about this exact thing.
I don't have to care about it, but I find it's free entertainment (thank God we don't have to PAY for the monarchy) and it's much better and classier than the Kardashians.

Like I said, I really enjoy the architecture and cultural differences.
I find it interesting to observe the Brits as they react to this. I, for one, don't care whether they have a royal boy or girl. But it is interesting to see people lined up in big numbers just to get a glimpse of the new baby coming out of the hospital.

I wouldn't stand in line for 2 minutes to see the royal baby. Then, I would not get excited to see movie stars, musical groups, pop stars, or politicians that a ton of people in this country would form a mob to watch.

I would rather have one of my 6 grandkids sit on my lap and give me a hug than any of the above. But, that's just me.

The irony. Our ancestors fled to get away from the rule of the King and now we fawn over everything they do.

But I have to admit, the 007 and Queen bit for the Olympics was pretty cool.

I agree, to a point. Being with my twin granddaughters is worth more than the 100 million dollars my pitching cousin makes, but I do enjoy an old rock 'n roll band every now and then. 03-wink

BTW, you are very blessed to have 6 grandchildren.
