If you are covered by Medicare, you may be aware that the government is proposing cuts in several sectors of the Medicare program. One of these cuts will affect patients who are undergoing dialysis treatment.
Your support and action is needed at a time that is so important to many receiving kidney care. The government proposes to reduce the total payment per dialysis treatment by nearly 10%--a level that is insufficient for covering the cost of dialysis. What's worse, today's Medicare reimbursement rates don't even cover the cost of dialysis care.
If the proposed cut is implemented, dialysis centers may be forced to close or reduce operating hours. These cuts are so deep that they will impact the availability and quality of care for dialysis patients. The reduction in payments must be stopped.
The proposed changes are to take effect Jan. 1, 2014 but we have until August 30 to influence how Congress responds to the proposed cut. Please let your voice be heard today. I urge you to contact your friends as well---cutting and pasting the prose in this letter or compose one of your own. Please make sure your Congress members know that any cut will hurt people who depend on dialysis to stay alive.
