Rivera faced three batters. Two ground outs and a line out. That's nice, but MVP?
Chris Sale faced six batters, and got all of them out. Two of them struck out. Sale got the win. Mario did not even get the save. Sale should have been MVP.
Except for one thing. The game was played in New York, and Mariano is retiring, so gee! Wouldn't it be great if Mariano was MVP in his final ASG? Politics trumps performance.
