Quote:Michael Young, a member of Phi Slama Jama and director of basketball operations at the University of Houston, filed a lawsuit to have his employment contract with the school rescinded, his attorney said Friday.

In the lawsuit, filed this week in Harris County District Court, Young alleges UH asked him to "engage in the illegal act of accepting money without performing a service and to violate NCAA rules" in regards to a reassignment to a community service role within the athletic department.

Young claims in the lawsuit that he was told by UH deputy athletic director Darren Dunn that his contract would remain in effect as long as his son, Joseph, a sophomore guard and the Cougars' leading scorer last season, remained on the team.

Quote:During a meeting in late May, Michael said he was informed by head coach James Dickey that he no longer would be director of basketball operations - a position he held the past seven years - and would directly report to Dunn.

As part of the reassignment, Michael was told he would handle community service projects from home. He was then asked by Dunn to clean out his office of personal belongings and turn in keys to the university's Athletic Alumni Center and Hofheinz Pavilion by May 31, according to the lawsuit.

"It was clear Mr. Dunn did not want Mr. Young on campus and that he would be paid to sit at home," the lawsuit said.

Quote:Subsequently, Joseph left the basketball program and announced June 28 he would transfer to Oregon. Michael said the circumstances surrounding his son's departure from UH will be part of a waiver petition to the NCAA for him to play immediately next season.

So Michael Young, a longtime employee of UH basketball, signs a one year contract but is reassigned to do another job, but the next day decides he doesn't want to do it because it would essentially be a no-work job only because his son is on the team.

This could get ugly.

That is exactly what this is. He is angling to get his son a waiver to transfer to play at Oregon this fall.

His lawsuit has no chance of success this is just bitterness on the way out the door.

Lots of he said she said but there is no proof of his case. He can claim that he was on staff because of his son all he wants but look at the facts.....

He was on staff for a decade well before his son came to UH, and his son was (as some of you remember) was a Providence commit who bailed on them to come to us.

This whole thing stinks of bitterman and it makes it stink worse coming from a member of Phi Slamma Jamma.

Just make a graceful exit with dignity not the whiny 2 year old being played right now.

How good a player is his son?

There are flashes but he hasn't lived up to the hype.

But to be honest he would be a serviceable PG just not star power.
