Probably doesn't deserve a new thread, but the other one of course got bogged down with more our conference is better than your conference garbage. We have a history of flopping PR campaigns like this historically but not so yesterday and thought some of you would like to see video evidence of our efforts yesterday.

The university did a great job of using official start date not to educate everyone that hey we're in C-USA now. They actually used this opportunity to completely saturate the news cycle for an entire day. I can't remember how many interviews were done on radio but every single news station featured MT last night. Perhaps most impressive was our use of social media. Video of the newscasts below...

The ABC affiliate has not posted any sports videos on their site from last night.
There were crickets in Charlotte. We didn't even try outside of a couple videos for our website.

which is the way someone should behave when changing conferences. not renting airplanes to fly banners over the interstate....

I disagree. I know your rivalry hatred for MT skews your perspective much as MT fan's perspective of WKU is, but MT did it right. To the casual fan in the Nashville area, the SBC was/is no better than the SWAC and thus their opinion of MT and it's conference mates was "meh". But regardless of the recent changes in C-USA, the average man on the street still perceives C-USA as a major step up. They still associate C-USA with Louisville, Cincinnati, etc. The average man/woman on the street doesn't keep up with these things like message board posters like us. Kudo's to the MT administration for creating a PR event to reach potential fans in the Nashville and Mid-state area.

In a state like TN, they probably associate CUSA with Memphis. MT did it right. ODU did it right. Charlotte **** the bed. Maybe our administration didn't really care since we've been in CUSA before, but I think that is foolish.

We had some billboards up after we announced, but there was no all out marketing blitz.

We also want to bring the hoops tourney to Nashville. We need WKU to promote the hell out of it next year.

Of course we did. This is marketing we're talking about.

They mentioned our return to C-USA on WITN in Greenville, i guess because ECU is still in C-USA for now.

You guys have already been in CUSA. Some promo would have been appropriate, but flying planes with banners would have been overkill in your case imo.

Being in a conference of this stature is all new for some programs and their fans and therefor it deserved some fanfare; but so much for you guys.

If you married your first wife again, would the wedding be as big of a fanfare? It probably wouldn't, but you'd celebrate in an appropriate fashion.
IMHO, some of you may be missing the point a bit.

Our push was less about C-USA and more about dominating the airwaves, the water cooler discussions and the WWW (which I think I mentioned in the OP).

It was taking an opportunity to drown out UT, Bama, the Titans and anyone else and we actually did it. That's not always easy for schools like most of us who sit in the shadows of the SEC. Maybe we can go back and find out in a few weeks but we sold tickets and I bet we even picked up a couple of major corporate sponsors after yesterday's efforts. Plus, we got to pimp the brand which was secondary but of value nonetheless. It will be difficult to put a dollar figure on all the positive press and penetration of the media market yesterday (I said penetration Uh ha ha).

Shoot....even the Vandy folks appreciated us taking them off the front page yesterday, even if for just a day.

Hitting the media is fine. but having fan celebrations and banner planes. that just makes you look overzealous. I hope that when we make the move we hit the airwaves in all three of our markets, but god no on airplanes and parties to celebrate "getting in".

When western moves i hope that we have an attitude of this is where we belong. No parties, no countdown until july 1st, no social media frenzy. Thank the belt for all of the memories, and greet our new mates. nothing more than that.

Acting like this is a victory makes you look small time.
We have a long history of bemoaning the fact that we get as much local pub as some of the high schools in Charlotte. The Charlotte college sports media is all ACC/all the time. We can get daily reports of how Roy William's bowel movements are going before getting solid Niner news. The local rags sports editor has even come on NN.N and told us his sports page is "regional" and that the 49ers get the same coverage other teams get (which we have repeatedly proved wrong). We do have a blog though, that gets updated once a semester, whoopy!!!!!

Meanwhile, in other C-USA markets they get stuff like this:

I think MT got it right. There's a lot to be excited about joining C-USA. We've all been witness of how this conference propels its members to the next level. C-USA has all the tools necessary to help its members excel and grow. Good job MT!! And go C-USA!!!

Speaking of the scandal on west end, any new info come out since last week?
I know Tulane and Rice are different from the rest of us, but they are not interchangeable (see repeated information in graphic above)

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you guys attempt to one up us next year in your celebration/media blitz.

And for the record, given our aerospace program and airport a few miles from campus, I sincerely doubt we rented a plane. All that likely cost us was the cost of the banner and fuel.
