This is one Golden Eagle fan that is excited about this conference. If nothing else, it feels like a conference that will have some camaraderie. I think we'll all pull together to make C-USA the best G5 conference out there.
My hope is that when success comes, we will stick together for the duration. Probably will never happen, but if the 14 schools could commit to a long-term vision, we could shock the world.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
Additionally, I hope we can find a way to make it economically feasible to add Arkansas State and Lousiana Lafayette.

Fire away.

How was that for my 500th post?

Just hope you are right brother. As a Runner fan, I'm excited about the future of our conference.
Agreed! This conference has a lot of potential. I think C-USA will eventually end up with 16 members. One benefit would be UAB moving back East for football.
meh
I lot of us have said it will have potential.. Unfortunately, the 'unwashed masses" just eat whatever E*** or CBS sports feeds them. (well, except for a few smarter reporters on CBS).

Now it's up to the schools to live up to that potential...
I just want some USM domination. I want people to say "only good thing going for CUSA is So.Miss."
You're right. Navy, UConn, and Temple are great additions. It's just a shame that USM has been kicked out.

"How about "the best thing going for CUSA is So. Miss?" We need you to be strong for the league to be strong, but if all there is USM, the conference...and by extension, USM...will suffer.

I have no problem with you being the marquee program. It's always good to have a target too shoot for. (Think Alabama for the SEC, Ohio State or Michigan for the BIG, Texas or Oklahoma for the B12, etc.)
Quote:I have no problem with you being the marquee program.

There need to be TWO consistent marquee programs for a conference to work as a "recognized' FB power conference IMO. Where if one of the two teams has a down year, the other picks them up.

PAC- USC and Oregon (with Stanford slipping in on occasion)
B1G - Ohio State, Michigan (with Wisconsin again, slipping in every so often)
SEC - Alabama, LSU (with Florida, Georgia, always knocking on the door)
BXII - Texas, Oklahoma (although now with no 3rd "name" team.. .they'll need someone to play spoiler (No A&M, NO Nebraska, so I guess TCU has to step up to the plate?)
ACC - Not so much.. this is where the issues start... Louisville should become one of their regulars, but everyone else is in "jockeying" position.
MWC - has Boise State.. and.? Nobody else is a consistent #2. Fresno State, Nevada are in there but never year-in/year-out.
SB - They really don't have any one DOMINANT team
MAC - For instance, last year, the MAC had N.ILL and Kent State knocking on the BCS door, but that was one year only to my recollection (NIU probably the best of the conference overall)
C-USA had USM/Houston two years ago, and USM was the model for consistency but never domination
AAC - I can't think of any one team in particular that could be the dominant team now that they lost Louisville (Cincinnati has to do more on a regular basis, but it'll probably be up to UCF (and possibly Houston) to really pick up the slack here.

Basketball.. well, that's a whole different kettle of fish. You really need at least 4 REALLY good teams and no BAD teams. (you can have poor teams, but no 'bad ones', which constantly hurt C-USA as we had UTEP, Tulsa, UAB, and Memphis... but we had some bottom dwellers in the meantime.)
While we do lose some good teams in ECU and Tulsa after the crap settled I am thrilled with this conference. On top of still playing S.Miss every year 02-13-bananaCOGS Marshall will finally have more regional games with WKU, ODU, MTSU, and Charlotte. I am not sure why but I am the most excited to start playing WKU. I have not reason for some reason I just do. I wanted them to first when this crap started.

I think it will be a good conference no matter what people say. To be honest like I said we only lost 2-3 good teams. Tulsa, ECU, and UCF. I don't think Houston will get back to what they were under Sumlin, SMU is nothing to be happy about, and both Memphis and Tulane are two schools that for all intents and purposes could give up football and no one would care. God knows their fan(s) don't.

In comes schools that very dedicated fan bases that actually get excited about their teams. My only plea for you new guys is to please TRAVEL TO YOUR AWAY GAMES. Let's make this conference fun and let's see if in this reboot we can all be respectful of each other and just have fun.

And on the basketball side I feel like we have imporved. We lost one good basketball team and brought in several to replace them. Outside of Memphis we lost nothing in basketball.

Look, my schools founded this league, I used to love this league, less so now, but what you are suggesting is simply not true.
thats your opinion. I love Marshall and the new conf and will go to games no matter who they are playing and not ***** and whine like alot of fans on here.

Ok fine, drink all the koolaid you want. You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. Fits perfectly for some people on this board.
no help needed here i'm fine
thanks to all old CUSA members, especially Marshall & USM fans. I know us FIU don't bring too much to the table right now but all I'm asking is to give us time to grow and prove ourselves. Looking forward to our 2013 CUSA season04-rock
I am just glad to have some teams that want to be here. and wish the others would move on and quit bashing our conf that they were a part of for years

I think many will soon realize and possibly be surprised what FIU will bring, and I'm not just talking about those hot cheerleaders (although another pic of them couldn't hurt COGS). FIU, if ya'll can hold onto a coach, has tremendous potential to take off.

Out:
Tulane - are terrible in both major sports and attendance is terrible.
Memphis - Good in basketball and a dumpster fire in football.
SMU - No one care about SMU. Just look at their stands.
Tulsa - Pillar of CUSA and will be missed.
UCF - Good in football but not a big loss in baskebtall.
ECU - Good and consistant football with great fans. Not a big loss in baksebetball.
Houtson - Football was good and will rebound to an extent but will not match the production under Sumlin and basketball is decent.

In:
WKU - solid football that is going up and a solid tourney team in basketball. Good fan support.
MTSU - Good football and good basketball with good fan support.
ODU - Yes they are FCS but they have a solid program, great fan support, in a good recruiting area, and have money to burn.
UNCC - Good basketball that was once in CUSA and the school has shown more dedication to their football team without even playing a game than half the schools listed above and their fans are super excited about the team.
North Texas - Good basketball and seem to be dedicated to improving football. Good fans as well.
UTSA - For a team that has only been around for two years they have better fan support than every school leaving other than ECU and are dedicated to building their program.
FIU and FAU right now are the only question mark programs that AT THIS TIME look like additions for location. We shall see how they build but they are excited about their future.

Sorry but I don't see how we are so bad off like you make it out to be. I have a feeling that CUSA will be far more competitive in basketball immediately and within 4-5 years football will be as well. Possibly sooner. Just depends on the pace that UTSA, UNCC, and ODU can grow. Also while it may be short lived Petrino will have WKU humming before he flakes on them too.

I mean you act like we are losing all these accomplished programs. Football wise not one program accomplished anything of note. There were not top 10 or 15 finishes, no BCS appearances, no heisman candidates, and not ground shaking wins to speak of. The only thing lost is a basketball team that was a perennial power in basketball.

I honestly am only going to miss Tulsa and ECU. So say what you will and thumb your nose down all you want but CUSA is not as bad as you claim it to be or the AAC is not nearly as good as you all make it to be.
