UAB, because of the special ties to Bartow and competitive nature of the games, is my favorite C-USA team other than Memphis. Although the basketball schedule has yet to be released, it appears likely that our series has reached an end. It is a sad day for me. I had hoped for an annual "Bartow Classic" with some of the gate receipts dedicated to cancer research. It would have been mutually beneficial to both schools.

I enjoyed visiting and seeing the sights of Birmingham and attending games over the years. I will continue to root for UAB and wish the team the best of future success.
Good post, sir. It's been easy to hate Memphis as the big dog in the series, certainly over the last few years. Calipari and indeed some Memphis fans added fuel to that fire. On the other hand, i had to respect how good some of those teams were. I know how badly I wanted us to win those games.

That said, like you, we loved Gene Bartow and some degree that bleeds over to Memphis. I too would have enjoyed and supported a "Bartow Classic", and I hope that it somehow does happen. I know that it will be difficult given the difficulty scheduling realities are. I'd like to see the series continue.

I appreciate you coming here and saying this. Well done.
I echo the thoughts on UAB -Memphis series. I had hoped the Bartow connection would keep series in multiple sports alive. The Tigers are the only team leaving that I'm going to miss.
I think the series will take roughly a 2 year break and once we settle in our new conferences it will start up again.
I'd imagine as said above it'll come back on the occasion but not for a few years while things settle down
