From its founding in 1995, Conference USA has been a home for the upwardly mobile.
Monday morning, Old Dominion officially departs the Colonial Athletic Association to became a member of Conference USA,

Many members have moved on to bigger and better things. .....
On average, schools received about $3.1 million in TV and NCAA basketball tournament revenue in 2011.

ODU .... in 2013-2014, C-USA will provide about $1.2 million. That increases to more than $2.2 million in 2014, ODU's first year as a full football member. All schools are expected to received about $1 million apiece from the new College Football Championship in 2014..

ODU's football and basketball games will be broadcast more frequently on national television in its new league.

automatic bids to six bowl games, from Honolulu to New Orleans to St. Petersburg, Fla.

But once Foreman Field is expanded - officials are to announce plans in August - might ODU seek to become one of the upwardly mobile?

"We love Conference USA and look forward to a long future in the league," Selig said before adding: "You've got to be on the interstate to get into the fast lane. Joining Conference USA puts us on the interstate."

OT,

Boy, you were up late last night. I slept in this morning and just finished reading all of the articles in the Sunday Pilot as I had my daily two cups of java. Minium has really been busy lately putting together his articles. It was really interesting to read how it all came down.

It looks to me like we are not only on the interstate, but also in the fast lane. I would not be surprised if we shoot right past some other schools when the next opportunity to move up a step presents itself.

04-cheers

I'm confident ODU will be prepared if and when that opportunity presents itself, however I hope it's at least 5-10 years down the road before conference reallignment opens up again.

I agree, the HOV lane of a future vision for ODU Athletics.
Why are there so many nay sayers and non-well wishers with our move to C-USA? The VP responses are unbelievable. Would it not make sense that we flourish in the new conference giving ODU more National exposure? In return, the growth of the University helps the areas economy in so many ways. Norfolk could be the site of a future bowl game. I mean if people will travel to Boise ID, they could be persuaded to come to Norfolk.
