On Facebook yesterday Gus said he made it thru his trip to Mexico this spring without getting sick and then gets back home and gets food poisoning.

This morning he posts that he is at the hospital and went thru an IV in 15 minutes.
Not good. Hope he's o.k.
I would assume that that would be a fairly quick recovery.

Come on Doc, food poisoning isn't normally fatal. Probably everyone has had food poisoning a time or two in their lives. A couple of days and you're fine. I hope this is not going to be an excuse for him not performing up to par this season. This program is full of excuses for not excelling.
I don't know much about it, but outside of killing the gut for a while, it should be OK, I think.

Here's to a speedy recovery for Gus from an unpleasant, but certainly usually not serious episode.

But I think LRTrojan's post is a pretty good example of how fed up a lot of UALR fans are of excuses for not being any good and producing something tangilble. And before anyone starts spouting off how well we've done in the last 10 or so years, a divisional championship in the SBC is not very tangilble as an achievement to me.
What! You're not turned on by all those division championship flags?
Beats a poke in the eye, but it won't get it done at this point.
Gus's only Facebook comment today is:

"Damn you Montezuma"
I am sorry for him.

I just don't want the kids, coaches or fans using this in march of next year and if only.

Only thing i want to here is about how this is the year and we are going to do it.

It = winning the sbc regular season and getting back to the sbc conference finals.

This is the year and we are going to do it!
I think so. We won't show it on paper, but I still think so.

I'll be pretty pleasantly surprised if we have the best record in the Sunbelt this year. it's possible. Maybe absolutely every other team, whose fans also demand no excuses and a league championship will have less talent than us. Possible. But what are the odds?

Not good, but the odds have broken against us enough times. It is our turn!

I'm not going to hold my breath, and I'm sure as hell not going to bet on us to win a league championship or the tournament. And I doubt seriously that any of you would bet on us either.

Sounds like some folks are a lot more confident that I am. I picked us to finish behind WKU, ASU, and GaState- and that's when I thought we had Javes and Gillon coming back and was unsure about Taggart. I've found myself getting a little more optimistic reading some of the posts by folks who think we will win the league. I think we may have the horses to be in the running, but are we as talented as WKU- probably not. USA and ULL- maybe. ASU is apparently putting their hopes on 2 or 3 transfers, so I don't really know what to expect from them. GaState is new to the league, but I expect them to have the talent and coaching to compete right away. I think it should be a fun year, but like LRTrojan I sure wouldn't put any money on us winning the whole thing.

I am not confident, but I do know the nature of things. We are all disgruntled, and our type teams tend to be underrated, even by us. A lot depends on Will getting back his 3-point shot, IMHO. If that happens, Belt coaches start having heartburn.

And Isler just has to take over this team. "No excuses; just do it!" That has to be the locker room attitude. Isler has that look toward opponents, "I am coming after you." He has to have that look to teammates, also. "Get it done, or else."
And listen. We need Isler in our faces as fans, also.

Who knows if we will win one of the titles, but we sure won't if we have doubts. I say we are going to do it. You may prove me wrong, but you won't prove me wrong until the end of the season.
Isler will have to develop that "New York State of Mind" with our other players. I think we'll be good this year. But as MJS says, will we be better than those three or four teams he mentions? We'll need some luck. No injuries to key players, and shots falling to win close games. It's possible we'll win it all, but odds are against it. But that's true with every team in the league. We need some great play and a lot of luck.
