Former Louisiana-Monroe athletic director Bobby Staub told the Monroe News-Star Tuesday he'll be FIU's new Senior Associate Athletic Director and Chief Financial Officer, a job recently vacated by Alex Duque. Staub and ULM parted ways in April.

According to FIU athletic director Pete Garcia, FIU's overall operating budget for 2013-14 projects total expenditures of $28,711,000 and total revenues of $29,258,000.

I will believe you turning a profit when I see it.
Ummmm...Wasn't Staub the person who hired Orlando Early, which is what got ULM into all sorts of APR trouble...and now he's going into a place in APR Hades? I'm not saying Staub is bad, but man, It doesn't look like FIU made a good decision in this case.

According to some reports, Staub did not want to hire Early, but former ULM President Cofer made Staub hire Early.

And ULM got out of APR trouble during Staub's last few years in Monroe. FIU probably wants to find out how ULM did it. But like Blue said, Staub wasn't the one who hired Early. Staub hired the guy (Richard) who got us out of that situation.

Ummmmmm ... Staub actually wanted to hire Andy Kennedy, but the former president Cofer wanted Early. Nice try though.

Good decisions don't seem to be something FIU makes very often.

I believe it. They have a million students (they don't go to games so you might not have known) and they charge them a very hig athletics fee.

USA Today publishes all the data. They didnt turn a profit in 2011-12 and we wont know this past years numbers for a while, but they have such high revenues because of the ~$18M (and rising) in student fees

I know yall are working out of it, and like I said, I don't think Staub is bad by any stretch especially if what yall are saying is true (which I don't doubt). What I'm saying is from a perception point of view for FIU, they are about to lose Division 1 status because of APR issues, the last person I'd hire is anyone with any kind of APR issues, right, wrong or indifferent. Hiring him on in an advisory role would be great, but to head the athletic department kinda sends mixed messages to the NCAA who they're going to have to battle in the near future to keep from losing their program completely.
I think it's interesting that the ULM fans are suggesting that this is a good hire.

if Staub was so good, why did you let him go?

Staub is good. He did well at ULM. However, we are moving in a new direction athletically with respect to fundraising and coaching hires. That necessitated a new AD. Like they say, different skill set for different task.

And yet Another derailed thread...

FIU has over 50K students (7th largest in the country) hence the large revenue from student fees.

Don't believe everything you hear. FIU is not losing its D1 status. Those rumors were propagated by our friends in Boca for obvious reasons. ULM APR scores were far worst and they're still around.
Man. I really just don't understand what FIU is doing these days...

I am certainly no authority on the subject but that is not what others have said. Loss of Division 1 status is called for on the fourth year violation it seems. Unless something changed FIU would have to appeal to the NCAA to avoid that if it is their fourth straight violation. Maybe they would receive a favorable appeal.
Wonder if FIU thought about Hammond from SoMiss as AD since his contract is not being renewed.
This is just an associate AD position. It is kind of funny that Staub will be in charge of fundraising though, considering ULM's budget woes.

More like considering he put forth no fundraising initiatives while at ULM.

Sounds like another good move by FIU.
