I fear for the future of WBB after reading this report. WBB is the most successful women's college sport ever, but because it is not successful enough, we apparently have to completely revamp it. I think this is off-target in so many ways and if the recommendations are implemented, it will drive away the current fan base to replace it with an unknown future fan base, if at all.

Some of the more silly recommendations IMO:
- 24 second shot clock (cause, poor shooting is one of the causes of poor attendance - that's in the report)
- 4 quarters instead of 2 halves
- Allow teams to get the ball in the front court in the last 2 minutes of games
- a fashion consultant to design better fitting uniforms
- ban visible tattoos
- more stringent contact rules (I guess cause fans can't stand women playing a physical game)
- an award for the coach who has a team with the best shooting percentage (cause you know, coaches would never ask the players to shoot well unless there was an award)
- elimninate all conference tourneys
- shrink the season to fit all in 1 semester
- hold the final 4 in China or Qatar
- consider preventing teams from having a country-wide travel schedule

and many more. I only agree with a few of the recommendations, like going back to 13 scholarships and steamlining the overall governance of the sport.

I have a lot more things I could say about this, but what do others think?

I think you're over-reacting. Most of what you mention are a sampling of comments from interviews the author did. It's not like the NCAA has these changes ready to vote on. Likely most of them will never see the light of day.

Here are some rules changes that are close to becoming reality: http://espn.go.com/womens-college-basket...court-rule
Of course I'm overreacting, that's what message boards are for isn't it?

And yeah, I understand most of these things won't see the light of day, but the fact that the NCAA requested such an ill-conceived study (didn't ask fans, didn't study what successful programs do, has recommendations which contradict the very things they are trying to solve) is what worries me. This is based on interviews with coaches & administrators - the very people who might approve such changes. So, I just don't trust the the NCAA isn't going to overreact and jump off the deep end and ruin the sport.

I know, I'm paranoid. When I got half way through, I almost expected to see a recommendation to go back to the weird 6 on 6 game that some states used to play in women's high school basketball.

That would be Iowa. And they're still playing 8 man football in some states.

It was more than just Iowa. Early in the 20th century that was the standard form for women's basketball, including college (I think). In most places it faded out by the 50s or so, I think, but a couple states kept it going a while longer.

This was different than 8 man football in the sense that it was developed specifically for women because it was thought to be more suited to them than the brand of basketball men were playing by, among other things, forcing them to play more team basketball than they might otherwise.
Toledo doesn't need to do squat, we have a great city and university that supports this team. Run with it and win baby!

Actually there was a perception that the ladies didn't have the stamina or athletic ability to run the full court and play both offense and defense.
this is stupid. next they'll say women only belong in the kitchen and no female college sports

i saw last week on tv that WOMEN tested better in space exploration in every facet of the program done by NASA in the 50's and 60's.......yet they were deemed unsafe to fly.

so these new rules they might put into play mean exactly nothing
