That's what a scoreboard test at War Memorial Stadium indicates.

Why not the "Wal-Mart Bowl" or "Tyson Chicken Bowl"???

Apparently, Riceland showed up with the money first.

Because you've already heard of them?
I don't care what they call it as long as we get another bowl.

+1
Agreed. Who cares what the name of the bowl is.
Wal-Mart and Tyson are based in NW Arkansas a few miles from the Hogs.

Riceland's former CEO (former Arkansas Agriculture Secretary, former undersecretary of Agriculture for the US) is a former ASU Board member and close to the governor. Lots and lots of kids from the Stuttgart area go to Arkansas State. In fact most of the kids from the rice growing part of the state who go to college go to ASU.

In an earlier thread several people were surprised that Arkansas is the country's largest rice producer. Riceland needs exposure far worse than Wal-Mart or Tyson. Look at the Belk Bowl. They aren't as large as Wal-Mart, Sears, Pennys, Dillards, all larger retailers, Belk needed the exposure.
At one time Riceland's Jonesboro mill was said to be the world's largest rice mill.

Would really like to see a bowl tie-in with a G5 conference, but since that probably won't happen, how about the MWC. We don't have that yet.
Riceland is some dang good rice.

MWC doesn't have a need for a bowl game. MAC is losing the Little Ceasers Bowl, CUSA now needs enough bowls for 14 teams. Both those league's have needs.

Only way you could get one of those involved is if the SEC was interested in filling the bowl game.

Love that idea..
As of about two weeks ago, the Little Rock hope list was:
1. AAC because of Memphis, Tulsa, Houston, and SMU being close.
Scuttlebutt was that AAC wants only one game vs. Sun Belt and that's likely New Orleans.

2. CUSA because of proximity of UNT, UTSA, Rice, Tech, USM, UAB, MTSU, WKU.
Supposedly some CUSA schools wanted to check other options preferring to not be in a bowl that could see Arkansas State as the preferred team, meaning a very pro-ASU crowd.

3. MAC. They need a game, Little Rock is adding a game.

Never heard MWC mentioned but they are in pretty good shape for games.

The rice silo's in Jonesboro were the world's largest at one time.
A little tidbit about building rice silo's, that you may not know.
When they are pouring concrete for rice silo's....they never stop until they are complete. They pour concrete around the clock to prevent seams. Seams allows for the possibility of moisture leaking in.

As a kid, I recall seeing them build a silo near Wynne.

I would not be in favor of the AAC providing a team to the NOLA Bowl unless it is from the top two teams. 04-cheers

Do not need a fourth or fifth place team. 03-puke
Arkansas Riceland Bowl has a good ring to it. When I first heard it I immediately thought of
Grantland Rice instead though. Not a bad association. Rice was a sports writer that died @ 60 years
ago from Tennessee that was very well known for those that have not heard of him.

Would a MWC team for this bowl make sense though? It's pretty far away from them, and as such I would think the travel to the bowl would be rough.

Until the Sun Belt puts a bowl in Texas (Central to West Texas at that) or New Mexico, I don't think you'll see a MWC team in it.
